Chicago Screw in Bridle

The Chicago screw may be perfect for a lot of applications but not for holding a bridle together.

Sometimes so-called improvements to the tools we depend upon are really just changes to make manufacturing easier and more profitable. Such is probably the case with Chicago screws being used to hold bridles together. Clinician Charles Wilhelm.

"A Chicago screw is like a barrel that has threads and then the bolt kind of screws into it, so it's both finished and rounded so it doesn't hurt the horse. But with vibration and use, they back out and then the bridle is dangling. I really don't care for Chicago screws. I've lost them myself out on the trail, and you lose the bit and you're in a real predicament."

What's better than a Chicago screw in a bridle? How about something so simple and ancient that it was probably used on the very first bridle? Leather string.
