Cubism: From All Sides at Once
By Beth Gersh-Nesic

The Conference
Before Cubism was a style, it was an idea. This fall and winter, we celebrate the 100th Anniversary of the 1912 Salon d'Automne and the infamous Armory Show of 1913, which established the significance of Cubism's influence on 20
th-century art. Dr. Gersh-Nesic's slide lecture will introduce you to Cubism,
 the Cubists and their history.

Did you know that she existed, and that Nannerl (this was her name) also played virtuously the harpsichord at a young age? The drama of her life was to be born a female, too early, and that her younger brother happened to be one of the greatest geniuses ever. RenÚ Ferret directs his own daughter, Marie, in a French movie that was very well received by U.S. critics in 2012.

As always, with delicious sandwiches from The Kneaded Bread!

One Book One Federation Workshop

This year, to promote French literacy, the Federation of the Alliances Franšaises of the USA chose Philippe Claudel's novel La petite fille de Monsieur Linh
A portrait of true friendship, this novel explores that of two men from different worlds, with not even a common language to bind them.
Using the reading guide created by the Federation, as well as a screening of his 2008 film Il y a longtemps que je t'aime, this workshop is an extensive study of Philippe Claudel, as both an author and a director.
