Fela!A conversation with the creative team of the show Fela! (back on Broadway for a limited run at the Hirschfeld Theatre): director/(Tony-winning) choreographer Bill T. Jones, producer Stephen Hendel, and the dynamic Sahr Ngaujah who plays the title role of the legendary Nigerian superstar and activist Fela Kuti. Also, master illusionist, Matthew Holtzclaw and actor Chuck Cooper of Finian's Rainbow perform a dazzling magic trick that will fulfill the dream of every producer on Broadway.

Theater Talk is a series devoted to the world of the stage. It began on New York television in Susan Haskins and Michael Riedel1993 and is co-hosted by Michael Riedel (Broadway columnist for the New York Post) and series producer Susan Haskins. The series is produced by Theater Talk Productions, a not-for-profit corporation and is funded by contributions from private foundations and individuals, as well as The New York State Council on the Arts.

Theater Talk airs every Saturday at 8:30 pm, Sunday at 12:30 pm and Monday at 7:30 am, 1:30 pm and 7:30 pm.

Each session is moderated by a member of The New York Times' award-winning team of arts and culture editors, critics and reporters.

This week, join us for "Mary J. Blige." Iconic singer-songwriter Mary J. Blige has six Grammy Awards, seven multi-platinum records and nearly 20 years of being at the top of the charts to her credit. The queen of hip-hop soul talks about her music, her career and her new album, My Life II...The Journey Continues (Act 1). The interviewer is Jon Pareles, chief pop music critic for The New York Times.

He Walked By NightThe best in world cinema is showcased in this regular series. Each film is followed by lively discussion with scholars, film professionals or critics, hosted by Professor Jerry Carlson.

This month, we present "Post War American Crime Films." This week's film is He Walked By Night, directed by Alfred Werker, and starring Richard Basehart, Scott Brady, Roy Roberts, and Whit Bissell. A police procedural drama about the LAPD's manhunt for an electronics expert who has shot and killed a policeman. The film was co-directed by an uncredited Anthony Mann. The discussion guest is Nancy Gerstman, of Zeitgeist Films.

 

He Walked By Night airs on Saturday, July 14 at 9:00 pm and on Sunday, July 15 at 9:00 pm.

Yehudi Menuhin: The Violin of the Century and A Bach Companion: The Life and Work of Johann Sebastian Bach

Yehudi Menuhin Join us this week for two classical treats. First, at 1:00 pm, watch Yehudi Menuhin: The Violin of the Century, a two-part profile of the legendary violinist, Yehudi Menuhin (1916-1999), seen here at his home in the Greek isles on the eve of his 80th birthday.

Then, at 3:00 pm, settle in with A Bach Companion: The Life and Work of Johann Sebastian Bach. The film takes a close look at Bach's life, the places where he worked, and the techniques he used, as well as at the political and cultural life during the composer's time.

Yehudi Menuhin: The Violin of the Century airs on Sunday, July 15 at 1:00 pm.
