This week is packed with openings, closings and ONE CHANCE events! Speaking of ONE CHANCE, if you missed the awesomely zany 25th Annual Houston Art Car Parade last weekend, you're in luck! Plant yourself in front of the tube on Sunday evening at 6PM for an Hour Long Art Car TV Special on KIAH-TV CW39. The show will feature the weekend's Art Car festivites, history of the Orange Show and more.

Fresh Arts (Spacetaker + Fresh Arts Coalition) presents Walled Garden, a solo site-responsive installation-based exhibition by Stephen Kwok in its Spacetaker Gallery. Creating work straddling the boundary between the digital and physical worlds, Stephen Kwok's installation-based multi-media exhibition is an exploration of technology, spirituality, and our connection to physical goods and the environment. Jared Nicholson, 3rd Place Winner of Houston Art Car Parade 2012, will be giving a presentation and workshop on using Skratch, a unique sculpting element, to create elaborate designs and structures on vehicles, transforming them into eco-friendly masterpieces. Hosted by Orange Show Center for Visionary Art.

Join 2011-2012 Lawndale Artist Studio Program participant Seth Mittag for a free Happy Hour workshop featuring two of Seth's many talents: Mojitos and Stop Motion. Participants will be introduced to basic stop motion techniques such as storyboarding, filming and editing. More info here

Musiqa presents their Spring Loft Concert in collaboration with Perspectives 178: CINEPLEX at the COntemporary Arts Museum Houston. Alternate Tracks features soundtracks composed by students from the music departments of Rice University and the University of Houston. More info here

Skydive Art Space is pleased to present a two-person exhibition featuring the work of Brian Dupont (Brooklyn, NY) and Chris Rusak (San Francisco, CA). Although they work on separate coasts, both artists share an interest in the aesthetic possibilities for language and text in contemporary painting. More info here

DiverseWorks will exhibit hundreds of 7 x 9 inch art works to be sold via lottery. Purchase a ticket to receive a number. Numbers are called at random. Gallery M Squared is pleased to announce the opening of Sticks and Stones, a paired exhibition of new original paintings by Houston artists Nicky Davis and Jessica Rice. Themes of cultural alienation with the natural world and satirical humor unite both artists' collections, with Nicky's bright palette and demure, knowing animals and characters the perfect foil to Jessica's eerie visions of surreal melancholia and tragicomic creatures. has a host of programs for kids and families, including student productions. This weekend, kids will perform David Wood's adaptation of Roald Dahl's The Witches.
In addition to student productions, Main Street Theater offers kid-friendly programming. This Saturday will be the final performance of Superfudge, the sequel to Judy Blume's
Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing. Superfudge will delight audiences with the silly antics of siblings and the challenges of family life.

DiverseWorks brings this water themed site-specific work is a collaboration with 16 local professional dancers, Houston composer Aaron Hermes and Space City Gamelan in a 45 minute promenade performance event that physically and visually animates the Gerald D. Hines Waterwall Park. This event is in partnership with Uptown Park.

Aurora Picture Show hosts this outdoor screening of artist-made short films about two-wheelers (scooters, unicycles, bicycles, tricycles, motorcycles). Jump on your two-wheeler and join Aurora in Sesquicentennial Park where they've partnered with Buffalo Bayou Partnership and Alamo Drafthouse Cinemas to bring Houston this unique drive-in event.

Austin-based composer Travis Wellerīs new work is a site-specific chamber music performance spread across seven historic row houses at Project Row Houses. Audience members will be provided with portable radios and headphones and sent on a sound walk through the interiors, where they will encounter musicians performing refracted solos in each setting.

Presented by Young Audiences of Houston and Discovery Green, ARTSPLORATION is an arts in education preview showcasing more than twenty artists and ensembles. Artists will offer a vast array of participatory visual art workshops and unique presentations in the performing arts designed for PK-12 schools and community venues. More info here

Fresh Arts (Spacetaker + Fresh Arts Coalition) partners with Texas Accountants and Lawyers for the Arts on a quarterly basis to offer artists and members of arts organizations an opportunity to get one-on-one council on specific accounting and legal questions. We're pleased to now include AIGA Houston as a partner of this free program, offering resources for Houston's design community. Betz Gallery will be breaking the rules this with an unusual exhibit displayed in an uncommon way. Instead of perfectly spaced, expensive art hung precisely on gallery walls, a hodge-podge of recycled frames will display a variety of affordable original art pieces and fine art prints. All will be hung salon-style. Featured artists include Jessica Jacobi, Justin Dunford, Lindsay Peyton, Anne-Joelle Galley, Lisa Chow, Gina Vasquez, Terry Klumpff and John Gardosik. More info here

BOX 13 ArtSpace is pleased to present four exhibitions opening Saturday and running through June 23rd. In the Downstairs Front BOX Chinaman's Suitcase showcases the photos and videos of Miao Jiaxin's performance work. In the Downstairs Back BOX, Emily Peacock curates the work of Radu Rancanu and William Witte in Palinka & Lone Star. Ariane Roesch outfits the window BOX with an installation of her plush computer Playmates. In the Upstairs BOX, Britt Ragsdale asks the viewer to take a moment with Breathe. More info here

Through a unique collaboration of musicians, dancers, and poets, The Rumi Concert brings to life the ecstatic poetry of the 13th-century Persian mystic Rumi. The concert features Coleman Barks, accompanied by world percussionist Glen Velez, Grammy Award-winning cellist David Darling, and acclaimed storydancer Zuleikha. Main Street Theater presents this play in which nine year old Winnie Barnstairs observes the whirlwind at her motherīs workplace - a foul-tempered, TV personality, his baby-talking mistress, his vindictive wife, and his hungover friend - and finds herself with more than enough fodder for her homework, an essay entitled "My Wonderful Day."
