To know and follow Jesus

When the Cultivate Women's Conference comes to First Jackson on March 31 and April 1, it won't be just another tour stop for one member of the team. For violinist Bethany Bordeaux, it will a homecoming of sorts.

As a student at Mississippi College, Bethany was an active member of First Jackson, using her talents in the worship ministry as well as being involved in several other areas.

"I first came to First Jackson as an incoming freshman at Mississippi College in August of 2000...some friends and I visited on the Sunday morning of move-in weekend and I instantly felt at home," Bethany says. "Over the next six years, until I moved to Nashville, Tennessee, in August of 2006, I was deeply involved in many areas of the church and can truly say that my time there set the trajectory of my adult life on several levels."

Bethany now works with Bible teacher and Cultivate leader Kelly Minter, as her assistant, wearing many hats such as event planner, travel agent, secretary, and a "figure-it-out girl!" In addition to serving alongside Kelly, she is a freelance violinist.

In her personal walk, Bethany has seen the importance of daily knowing and following Christ, but also the difficulty. Bethany said, "I know it's often difficult in a culture so saturated with distraction and information, but I'd encourage you to take time to pray in those crevices of time that easily go wasted...for me it's usually in line at the post office, or waiting for my printer to FINALLY spit out the document I need...for you maybe it's picking up carpool, or folding laundry." Stopping and taking time alone in the Word and in prayer can be a challenge, but Christ is more than worth it.

Cultivate weekend is intended to be a weekend to do just that: stop and focus on Christ. Of the upcoming conference, Bethany said, "Cultivate was truly born out of the desire to strip away so many of the things that we often get caught up in when it comes to events, and offer a time where women could come and simply experience Jesus in a way that is intimate and comfortable, no matter if they have known Him for years, or if this is their first encounter with Him."
