This Weekend in Beaver Creek
Dear Neighbors

The rainy weather this month seems to be agreeing with the geese, deer, bobcats, coyotes and javelina.  We have a good crop of all of them this year, some of which are very melodious at night.  Have you seen the big hawk hanging out by the bridge into Lake Montezuma? Thank you to Daniel Bartsch who captured the magnificent buck visiting his yard with a beautiful photo.

Please don't forget that Dave Elston is speaking about the Grand Canyon in the Adult Center at 9 AM this morning.  The regular surplus food distribution is Saturday morning at Beaver Creek School and Monday is a free entrance day to all National Parks.

The latest free food chart is below, note that Bountiful Baskets no longer distributes in Camp Verde.  Several ADOT and YCSO press releases also follow.

Now if we could please just have a little sunshine!!

Commitment to continuous improvement drives ADOT's culture and value

Take an interactive tour of 2016 achievements and what lies ahead

MVD
Dramatically reduced wait times at Motor Vehicle Division offices over the past year are just one example of how ADOT's commitment to continuous improvement pays dividends for Arizonans. Take an interactive tour of 2016 improvements and what lies ahead through ADOT videos and stories:

Need a driver license? More Authorized Third Party offices now do that

MVD customer service options continue expanding statewide

PHOENIX - One of the most common Arizona Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Division transactions just got a bit easier with the addition of more Authorized Third Party providers permitted to offer driver license services including road testing, written testing and photos.
There are now 22 third-party providers, operating at 33 locations, authorized to offer these transactions. To do so, they must meet stringent qualifications set by MVD.
These services are provided at all MVD offices and require an in-person visit. Customers looking for convenience may wish to consider an Authorized Third Party.
"Partnering with Authorized Third Party providers is a very successful example of government and the private sector cooperating to offer outstanding customer service," Motor Vehicle Division Director Eric Jorgensen said. "These offices are a convenient and popular supplement to MVD locations. Having more of them offering driver licenses is another great example of MVD getting people out of line and safely on the road."
All Authorized Third Party providers must follow MVD guidelines and are monitored for compliance. Operators that offer driver license services have additional requirements, including having been a third-party provider for at least three years, conducting at least 1,000 transactions per month for one year, having an appropriate facility and meeting certain financial requirements.
With several more Authorized Third Party locations expected to open before the end of the year, information about which offices provide driver license services can be found at ServiceArizona.com or azdot.gov/mvd
THE JURY SCAM IS AGAIN FLOODING YAVAPAI COUNTY RESIDENTS -

Over the past few days, YCSO has received numerous complaints from persons reporting they had been called by a man claiming he was with the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office and demanding payment on a warrant for failure to appear for jury duty.  Fortunately, most of the victims were aware of media reports regarding the scam and simply hung up on the suspects. But yesterday, January 9, 2017, a Prescott resident lost $785 in the scam.  Note - the phone number reported is common to all our recent calls - 928-215-68XX - (detectives are working to track the number's origin).

The Prescott victim told deputies that she received a call on her cell phone from a "Frank Davenport" around 10:30 that morning who claimed he was with the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office. The victim was travelling south on I17 at the time.  The suspect told her there was a failure to appear and a contempt of court warrant out for her arrest because she did not show up for federal jury duty.  The suspect transferred her to a "Mr. Rhodes" and he stayed on the phone with her until she reached a bank in Sun City, AZ. As directed by the suspect, she withdrew $785 from her account then purchased 2 Pay Pal prepaid credit cards at a local convenience store. After sharing the account numbers with the suspect, he told her to take the cards with the receipt, a phone bill with her address on it, and her odometer reading to YCSO on Tuesday by 1030 to have the warrant cleared up. By the time she realized she had been scammed, the money was removed from both credit cards.

NEITHER THE SHERIFF'S OFFICE OR ANY COURT OFFICER  WILL EVER DEMAND PAYMENT ON A WARRANT BY PHONE WHILE DEMANDING THE USE OF PRE PAID DEBIT CARDS. Always verify such demands by calling back on a published number for the agency involved.
