Greetings!
This Year's
Ros Limerick
In traditional Ros Limerick Contest fashion, we have three awesome judges lined up to render verdicts on just which poems of pink deliver the most potent limeristickal punch. Durham's culinary, musical, and literary scenes are, as always, represented! Keep your limericks coming our way. For more information on the contest itself and what you can win, take a look below...
Matt Kelly of Vin Rouge & Mateo
Culinary Institute of America graduate, Matt Kelly, is best known for bringing Durham's Vin Rouge and Mateo to life. He's very modest about his thoughtful approach and the finesse that permeates his cuisine, but it's clear that he's serious about food and what he does. He's a home town hero and instrumental to Durham's vibrant restaurant scene.
Kym Register of The Pinhook & Loamlands
Kym Register has been an integral part of the Triangle's music scene throughout the course of the past decade, a role that was further solidified when she (along with Elizabeth Albrecht and Wine Authorities' own Nick Williams) opened the Pinhook bar & music venue in the autumn of five years ago. She currently plays guitar and sings in Loamlands.
Ken Rumble, Poet & Novelist An author of several books of poetry and in the process of building his first novel, Ken Rumble is also a bit of a renaissance man and an ardent drummer. He may be best known for Key Bridge, a thematically-driven poem of 72 pages. He'll need to be at the top of his game to carefully weigh, from what we've seen so far of this year's entries, the profundity of symbolism and heart wrenching emotion to be found in this year's ros limericks...

Ros Limerick Contest!
It's time once again to get creative* and express your passion, joy, love, and desire for dry pink wines through the always eloquent, heartfelt, and touching... limerick!
From Wikipedia: A limerick is a five-line poem in anapestic or amphibrachic meter with a strict rhyme scheme (aabba), which intends to be witty or humorous, and is sometimes obscene with humorous intent.
The following example of a limerick is of unknown origin:
The limerick packs laughs anatomical
In space that is quite economical,
But the good ones I've seen
So seldom are clean,
And the clean ones so seldom are comical.
* Needless to say, we recommend a glass of wine... or two... to help you gear up (or down?) for waxing limericktic.
The Rules: - You must be at least 21 to submit an entry.
- Multiple entries are allowed, but each must be in a separate email. Only poems in true limerick format are eligible to win, but other forms of poetry are welcome.
- Only entries submitted via email will be accepted.
- Entries must be "clean enough" to print publicly.
- All entries are due by Friday, September 6th at midnight.

Tasty Tuesday:
"Rosato Italiano" (+!)
This Tuesday, September 3rd, we present our FREE midweek wine tasting. Every Tuesday is tasty! From 5:00 - 7:00, we host this bonus tasting of three wines to get you through the early week and land you safely on hump day!
A ros "by any other name" still represents the pinkest of of drinks - a deliciously dry treat that we can't get enough of (whether or not it's said to be in season). It's no accident that our first post-Labor Day tasting this year features deliciously pinkish wines - each hailing from Italy! We'll begin with a gently bubbly, blushing dry Lambrusco before shifting gears with a refreshingly complex Tuscan rosato featuring the region's ubiquitous Sangiovese grape. Lastly, we'll delve into a Piemontese red that's not much darker than many ross and packs exotic aromatics and an unexpectedly firm structure. Feel free to wear white pants!
And don't forget:
Tasty Tuesday 20%
After you taste, put together 12 bottles from our Tasty Tuesday lineup, and we'll take an entire 20% off!

This Saturday from 12 to 3 PM
"try before you buy" at
our FREE tasting
Northern Spain's Navarra is a region with a rich history and an impressive palette of grapes to paint with. Those of us who've had a chance to try many of Carlos Aliaga's wines have probably noticed that he's not afraid to experiment (even exploring varietals not typically associated with the region). This Saturday, however, our tasting is focusing on Navarra's tried and true Garnacha and Tempranillo grapes in four very different shapes and sizes. An exuberant ros, a bold joven, and two strikingly different mature reds (each with over a decade of experience at... being excellent) are set to wow and woo us with their Spanish charms. Ole!
Via Aliaga
Navarra Rosado 2012 "Lagrima de Garnacha" {organic} 100% Garnacha (Navarra, Spain)
PINKALICIOUS, RASPBERRY FRUIT, LEMON ZEST We met Carlos Aliaga in southern France at a wine show. That pink color on a table of red wine caught our eyes. And then the name, Lagrima de Garnacha or "Tears of Grenache," compelled us to taste. Carlos is...

Navarra Tempranillo 2011 {organic} 100% Tempranillo (Navarra, Spain)
SPICY, LIGHTLY SMOKY, CRUSHED BLACK FRUIT Winegrower Carlos Aliaga's father planted the vines here more than 45 years ago and being just two kilometers from Rioja, his focus was largely Tempranillo vs. the usual Garnacha of southern Navarra. Here in the heart of the Ribera Baja zone, he...
Via Aliaga
Navarra Tinto Reserva 2001 {sustainable} 75% Tempranillo, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon (Navarra, Spain)
ORANGE PEEL, LIGHT CHERRY, MATURE OAK, SILKY The mahogany colored edge is just a hint that the wine has been maturing for some time. The nose leans old-school with orange peel, light cherries and lays down with silky plush tannins. Winemaker and owner Carlos Aliaga named his wines after his...

Via Aliaga
Navarra Tinto 2002 "Antonio Corpus" {sustainable} 100% Garnacha (Navarra, Spain)
CONCENTRATED FRUIT & SPICE, BALSAMIC, DRINKS LIKE SILK No wine before its time, indeed. Yes, 2002 is the current vintage of this show- stopping Garnacha from Via Aliaga. Miles deep with flavors of fruit compote and sweet spice, the oak is so well integrated that the wine feels like it's melting in your mouth like chocolate...
