"There is a goodness, a Wisdom that arises, sometimes gracefully, sometimes gently, sometimes awkwardly, sometimes fiercely, but it will arise to save us if we let it, and it arises from within us, like the force that drives green shoots to break the winter ground, it will arise and drive us into a great blossoming like a pear tree, into flowering , into fragrance, fruit, and song...into that part of ourselves that can never be defiled, defeated, or destroyed, but that comes back to life, time and time again, that lives-always-that does not die."

Meditation, Nature, and Community

August 21-26, 2012

Indralaya, Orcas Island in the San Juan Islands, Washington, USA

Info

This retreat will focus on the synergy of meditation, nature, and community as pathways to the practice of deep relationship, creative generativity, and regeneration. Weaving inspirations from many traditions and teachers of the Dharma, Joel & Michelle Levey will guide us in a variety of treasured and time-honored practices for cultivating mindful awareness and deepening the loving-kindness, compassion, insight, and creativity we bring to life. This week offers a special opportunity to establish a personal practice of meditation; a practice that integrates into daily life and work; deepens your sense of connection and interrelationship with your world; and increases your capacity to be resilient and thrive in these challenging times.

Guided by experienced teachers, infused by the beauty of Orcas Island's holy book of nature, and supported by the company of kindred spirits, this retreat offers a rare blend of wisdom teachings, meditations, heartfelt silence, opportunities for group dialogue and deep reflections. Come prepared to joyfully discover the miraculous in every moment as you open your heart and mind to encounter reality as it truly is, and behold the true nature and potentials of yourself and All your Relations."

Meditation and Medicine:

Exploring the Vital Role of Contemplative Disciplines
in MindBody Medicine & the Healing Arts

with Joel & Michelle Levey
This program distills essential insights from decades of research and experience developed in teaching Meditation and Medicine programs to thousands of physicians, faculty, nurses, students, and other health caring professionals around the globe.  Drawing inspiration from diverse contemplative traditions, participants will explore practices from five categories of meditation - Concentration, Mindfulness, Reflective, Creative, and Heart-Centered - each of which have profoundly practical benefits for both clinicians and patients. Understanding a variety of practices that are easy to learn and teach helps to expand the range of options of what to recommend to patients, and also provides clinicians with a wealth of material and insights to improve their own self-care, well-being, clinical performance, and interpersonal relationships while actively engaged in helping others.
