The 2nd Annual Spring into Science Education is a FREE networking event and celebration for local educators and community members. This event has a lot to offer!

 

Highlights of the Spring into Science Education include:

  • The Premiere of the EcoExpress Documentary about the Overbrook Environmental Education Center
  • Exhibits by Local Environmental and Science Education Organizations
  • Hands-On Activity Demonstrations
  • Refreshments
  • Prizes

Getting to the Laurel Hill Cemetery is easy! Located just off of 76 in the East Falls neighborhood of Philadelphia, there is a free parking lot right on site for drivers. If you are taking public transportation, the 61 Bus runs from Center City to Laurel Hill. Or bike the  Schuylkill River Trail directly to Laurel Hill.

Wow! It's hard to believe Spring into Science Education is almost here. In three short days, EcoExpress and local environmental and science education experts will be presenting one of the most exciting educational events happening this year!

Learn about Garbage Gardening (where you make plants from kitchen scraps) and see examples of other class projects that students can exhibit at the Junior Flower Show.

Green roofs and walls, rain gardens, rain barrels -- see examples of best management practices for dealing with stormwater runoff and the greening od the city. Then add your design improvement in oil pastels to a photo of a city block, transforming the street into a beautiful and more livable landscape.

Laurel Hill Cemetery Tour

Gwen Kaminski will lead a tour of our host site and highlight the innumerable opportunities for learning about history, science, literature, and art at Laurel Hill Cemetery.

Fairmount Water Works Interpretive Center: Seeing is Believing and Green City, Clean Waters

Meg Malloy of the Fairmount Water Works Interpretive Center will present these activities that showcase the Philadelphia Water Department's educational initiatives and the educational programming that is presented at the FWWIC.

Earth Force: Awareness to Action Poster Activity

Do you want to encourage young people in your local community to participate in service learning and civic action? Earth Force has developed an amazing six-step process that empowers youths. Earth Force created "Awareness to Action" posters, which provide participants with a platform for identifying community environmental issues.

After watching the premiere of our documentary, learn more about the Overbrook Environmental Education Center from Jerome Shabazz.
