Relief Carving for Disney's Saratoga Senses Spa

Carved Maple Panel for Disney's Saratoga Springs Spa, Orlando Florida

If I asked you to free-associate on the word 'Maple', what would you come up with?
Syrup? Canada? A carved panel over eight feet tall?
That last one is mine. That's what I think of now when I hear 'Maple', because back in June Walt Disney Imagineering asked us to create a 100" by 62", two inch thick relief carving for the relaxation room of the Saratoga Senses Spa in Orlando.

It was a great challenge, and a lot of fun. But after spending over two weeks joining, power carving, hand carving, staining and finishing I have new respect for Maple for something besides producing a great topping for breakfast foods.

Small Friends 2013 Nantucket Show

We were back on Nantucket in July for the 20th straight year for the 2013 Event Under the Tent to benefit Small Friends Nantucket. As usual, it was a great event, and more importantly, raised money for their mission of providing year round child care and education for the island's working parents.
'The Kiss', shown below, was a special work debuted at the show - it was a collaboration of imagination, design, carving and painting between Patricia and I, and really made an impression at the show. Thankfully, it found a great new home in S'conset!
