 Youth, Heritage and Culture - Heritage Tomorrow 2017 Forum
 
Heritage Tomorrow NL - a heritage day for youth by youth
Saturday, 25 March 2017 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM
The Lantern, 35 Barnes Road, St. John's
 
Are you passionate about history, culture, museums, archives, folklore, tourism, or archaeology? Do you want to explore those interests, and meet people your age with similar passions?

Heritage Tomorrow 2017 is an event that brings together young heritage professionals, volunteers, and enthusiasts between the ages of 18 and 35 who want to grow their professional network while learning heritage traditions. Join us for the third annual youth heritage forum, the only event of its kind in Newfoundland and Labrador!
 
New this year, our networking lunch where you will meet with new professionals and create contacts with others interested in similar areas of heritage, catered by Volcano Bakery!

The current schedule is as follows:

10AM - Welcome and coffee.
10:30AM - Heritage skill training.
11:30AM - Networking lunch.
12:30PM - Skill competition.
1:30PM - Wrap-up.

A social will take place in the evening.

The fee for the day is only $10 and includes lunch, coffee, and amazing Icelandic pastries from Volcano Bakery. If you have questions, please contact heritagetomorrownl@gmail.com or 709-739-1892 ext. 3.

Cochrane Centre Manager
 
Cochrane Centre, a dynamic social enterprise committed to capacity building, inclusivity, innovation and partnership, is situated at the site of the historic Cochrane Street United Church building in the east end of downtown St John's. Operated by Cochrane Community Outreach and Performance Centre Incorporation (CCOPC), a community-focused non-profit, Cochrane Centre is home to 10 supportive housing units, a mid-sized performance centre, community rehearsal and performance space, a commercial-scale kitchen, and a meeting/gathering place for community groups.
 
After two years of planning and facility re-development, the CCOPC is embarking on the challenging transition into operations. This position offers an exciting opportunity for a creative yet disciplined individual looking to make a difference in the community. The Cochrane Centre Manager is the key staff person reporting to the Chair of a hard-working, talented Board of Directors, with supervisory responsibility for a small staff, currently consisting of an administrative assistant. Coming in at the ground floor, the successful candidate will take on the challenge of getting operations and programming off the ground and running, while assisting the Directors to develop financial and staff resources.
 
The Manager will work fairly independently overseeing the day-to-day operation of the Centre including the supportive housing units, community rental, and performance space. S/he will develop and implement community-based programs, be involved in marketing, promotion and fundraising, assist with financial planning and management, take a lead in organizational development, be a chief spokesperson and communicator alongside the Chair, and develop strong connections with community groups, networks, Cochrane Street United Church congregation, as well as with social and government agencies.
 
We are looking for a versatile, innovative and patient individual with strong non-profit management experience, familiar with current challenges in the areas of community development, homelessness, supportive housing, and arts promotion. S/he should show proven ability to work with a volunteer Board and its Committees, be knowledgeable about applicable government programs and legislation, have proficiency in data and financial management, social media and communications, and bring demonstrated skills in grant writing. S/he should be a strategic thinker with well-developed organizational and decision-making skills. Knowledge of fundraising principles and techniques would be an asset.
 
A university degree or equivalent in a related field, and three or more years of management experience in the non-profit/voluntary sector, or equivalent/related experience are essential ingredients for the successful candidate.
 
This is a full-time position with salary commensurate with qualifications and experience within a range affordable to a start-up non-profit. Applications should be sent by email to Board Chair, David Tucker, at davidjtucker@bellaliant.net

2017 Police and Peace Officer of the Year Awards (POYA)
 
UPDATE! Please find attached an updated version of the 2017 Police and Peace Officer of the Year Awards (POYA) Nomination Form (version 2). 
  
It was brought to our attention that an error in the 2017 POYA nomination form would prevent a nominator from electronically completing all the required fields. We have now fixed the problem, updated the attached. My sincere apologize for any inconvenience.
  
There is still plenty of time to nominate a deserving officer for one of the three 2017 Police and Peace Officer of the Year Awards. When completing a nomination, please use the attached form or visit the NL Crime Stoppers website for more information on POYA and download the nomination form.
  
Again, my apologies for any confusion. We look forward to receiving your great nominations.

March is here and the deadline for the 2017 Police and Peace Officer of the Year Awards (POYA) is fast approaching. Nominations are being accepted until March 20th 2017.
 
To nominate an officer for one of the three 2017 POYA awards, see the attached Call for Nominations. Nominations are being accepted in confidence for:

- Police Officer of the Year - Royal Canadian Mounted Police

- Police Officer of the Year - Royal Newfoundland Constabulary

- Peace Officer of the Year - employed for the preservation and maintenance
of the public peace or for the service or execution of civil processes.

Your help in distributing the attached information, nominating and/or
encouraging nominations of deserving officers would be greatly appreciated.
The 2017 POYA event is being planned for May 19th, 2017 at the Manuels
River Hibernia Interpretation Centre, Conception Bay South, NL.
