NCMEC and Old Navy send kids back to school safely

The National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) and Old Navy have partnered for a child safety event that will take place in Old Navy stores nationwide through September 23.  During the event, families will receive free child safety tips and information from NCMEC that can help keep their children safer. NCMEC urges families to educate themselves about child safety, with back-to-school season being one of the most important times of the year to be informed and prepared. Palm Beach County Library System celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month

This year marks the 10th anniversary of Palm Beach County Library System’s celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 – October 15. The month-long celebration features music, art, film, history and language with programs held throughout the county. The theme for this year’s celebration, “Traditions, Cultures, Identities” honors the diversity of Palm Beach County’s Hispanic community, and in doing so, programs reflect countries and cultures throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. Benefits available for veterans through the Office of Veteran Affairs and The Vets Place

Riviera Beach Mayors Office of Veterans Affairs (MOVA) along with The Vets Place offer assistance for any veteran or their spouses to file veteran benefits or benefits through Social Services. The Office of Veterans also assists in housing, jobs and resume building, along with pre-employment training. Pediatric and adult health care services at Florida Community Health Centers

Florida Community Health Centers, Inc. is proud to provide the people of Pahokee with pediatric and adult health care services.  Located at 170 S. Barfield Highway, Suite #101, Florida Community Health Centers is open Monday through Friday and offer extended hours two evenings per week. Accepting most major insurances including Health Care District of Palm Beach County, KidCare, Medicaid and Medicare, services are available on a sliding fee scale for people without health insurance. Women’s Foundation of Palm Beach County holds Women on the Run training

The Women’s Foundation of Palm Beach County (WFPBC) is holding a non-partisan training on September 26, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., to empower women with the skills to run for elected office. Women on the Run is a year-long interactive training and mentoring program for women interested in running for office or serving in a leadership role of a community organization. The Domestic Violence Council of Palm Beach County is hosting its annual Opening Ceremony marking October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month. This event will be held on October 5, 2 - 4 p.m., at the West Palm Beach Marriott, 1001, Okeechobee Blvd., West Palm Beach. This year’s theme, "Domestic Violence – The Wounds You Don’t See” seeks to shed light on the many facets of domestic violence and domestic abuse and its impact on our children, families and communities’ health, mental health, financial and family and social systems. The keynote will be provided by local domestic violence advocate Patricia Thomas and the Council will also honor the 2015 recipients of the Barry Krischer Humanitarian Award and Barry Krischer Scholarship Award. ELS for Autism Foundation holds conference on RUBI Autism Network Parent Training Model

ELS for Autism Foundation will host a conference on October 24, 9 a.m. - 12 p.m., at the ELS for Autism Foundation-ELS Center of Excellence, 18370 Limestone Creek Rd., Jupiter. Dr. Karen Bearss will present on “Supporting Parents of Children with Disruptive Behaviors: The RUBI Autism Network Parent Training Model.” The research unit on behavioral interventions (RUBI) Autism Network developed a manualized parent training program to teach professional how to support families in using ABA techniques to manage disruptive behaviors. The purpose of the workshop is to provide a greater understanding of the prevalence, impact and treatment of disruptive behaviors in ASD and how parent training is a promising treatment for these challenging behaviors. Center for Child Counseling launches online education program, weLEARNplay

The Center for Child Counseling is proud to introduce weLEARNplay, an online continuing education program for mental health and early childhood professionals. The program was initiated through the Center for Child Counseling’s vision to promote the use of effective strategies among professionals working with vulnerable young children and their caregivers. Supported by the Quantum Foundation, weLEARNplay was created as a venture to help Center for Child Counseling increase its margin to support expansion of its mission. The program includes a series of interactive, online training modules on a variety of mental health topics and interventions, including Play Therapy, Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health and Filial Therapy. Impact 100 PBC hosts free grant information session

Impact 100 Palm Beach County, a charitable fund of the Community Foundation for Palm Beach and Martin Counties, is a group celebrating "The Power of Women Giving as One." Its grant-making goal is to make it possible for a visionary idea to become a reality in the community by offering $100,000 grants to local nonprofit organizations. Impact 100 Palm Beach County will host a free nonprofit information workshop on September 24, 2 - 4 p.m., at the Palm Beach County Library, 14350 Hagen Ranch Rd., Delray Beach. Center for Trauma Counseling and Insight Counseling and Education presents EMDR refresher course

The Center for Trauma Counseling and Insight Counseling and Education will hold an Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) refresher course on September 25, 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m., at Children’s Services Council of Palm Beach County, 2300 High Ridge Road, Boynton Beach. This one-day workshop is for any clinician who has received the Basic Training in EMDR through an EMDRIA-approved course, and has not had the opportunity to practice EMDR and/or improve their skills or confidence level.  This course will develop clinical competence in using EMDR through didactic presentations, demonstrations, and supervised practicum. Palm Beach County Substance Awareness Coalition holds free seminar for parents raising teens

Join Palm Beach County Substance Awareness Coalition for its free parenting seminar on September 26, 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., at the Palm Beach County Substance Awareness Coalition 2300 High Ridge Rd., Boynton Beach. This free seminar, called “The Power of Parents,” will be offered by MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) and will provide communication tips, share how alcohol affects a teen’s developing brain and what parents can do to talk through the tough questions on alcohol. The session also will discuss how to talk to your teen about sexuality, such as how to communicate your values, answer difficult questions and share about birth control options and sexually transmitted infections.  Participants receive free breakfast, lunch and $50 at the end of the day. Community Education IEP workshop through the Arc of Palm Beach County

The Arc of Palm Beach County will hold a Community Education IEP workshop series on September 29, 6 – 8 p.m., at the Courim Center, 1201 Australian Ave., Riviera Beach. Parents as Liaisons (PALs) will conduct this workshop for parents and help them develop an educational binder for their child.
