Model United Nations Students Compete in MADMUN
Congratulations to the 23 Baraboo High School students who took part in the MADMUN on Saturday; four of whom took home awards!
Model UN is an international organization and Baraboo High School's newest club. Students were assigned different countries ranging from Canada and Belize to Nigeria and Djibouti. They researched their countries and wrote position papers on topics such as population growth, privacy and free speech, and poverty eradication. Students were then placed i n communities and tasked with debating and collaborating to propose and pass resolutions.
They had a lot of fun and made friends from many Madison area schools. Their next conference will be in Chicago at the end of the month where they will face international competition and be assigned new countries to research.
We are  #Barabooproud of Best Committee Position papers award recipients Maya Shay, Miles Statz, and Ryan Boukhankov; and Committee Debate Honorable Mention recipient Ashley Cornwell!

Lion's Club, Pulse Fitness Partner with JYMS on Diabetes Awareness
The Baraboo Lion's Club partnered with Jack Young Middle School 6th grade WIN teachers, SSM Health and community members this week  to educate the 6th grade students to live a healthy lifestyle to reduce the risk of  diabetes
The five day curriculum was created by the JYMS Health & PE department with additional resources provided by the Lion's Club and SSM. The lessons include an introduction of  diabetes , risk factors for the disease and ways to prevent and treat  diabetes . The curriculum was aimed at promoting healthy eating, hydration, physical activity, stress management and how this will affect living a healthy lifestyle. Each 6th grade student was given a water bottle with a healthy message on it (5 fruits/veggies a day, 3 hours or less tv/screen time, 9 glasses of water a day, 1 hour of physical activity, 3 family/friend meals or events). Sugar displays were set up for viewing at lunches,  diabetes  awareness ribbons were worn by staff,  diabetes  prevention door hangers were visible. A 6th grade student will win a fitbit by completing optional review worksheets for the week's activities.
The week will culminate with an all-school healthy activities event. JYMS staff will provided activities for the students to engage in during the last 45 minutes of the day. Community member and owner of Pulse Fitness Brandon Green has volunteered his time to teach a functional fitness workout for students.
