On Stage: Murder By Poe
The first senior play is almost complete and tickets are now available for purchase in the office! The play, Murder By Poe, is an array of some of Poe's greatest works come together as one, characters from different stories interact with one another and the audience will see some iconic scenes play out by our very talented students. Eviscerated hearts, decayed bodies and guillotines all play a part in Virginia's fevered dreams.  Due to the macabre material of Edgar Allen Poe, we highly advise that only children of middle school age and up attend. To enjoy these gruesome delights, please call our office manager, Claudia Agnos, and she'll reserve your desired number of tickets. We look forward to seeing you opening night.  For Reservations call (916) 395- 5266.   Reservations should be paid for by 15 minutes prior to curtain. Unclaimed reservations will be released to waiting patrons at 6:45pm

Gung Hay Fat Choy 
Tuesday the Gardening Class was joined by Minefeng Wang, a parent and our school librarian, to make dumplings for Chinese New Year. Ms. Wang explained the history of this 2000 year old tradition and demonstrated the art of stuffing and sealing the dumplings. After preparing the stuffing, the students practiced both rolling out and stuffing the delicious morsels and finished off with the steaming goodness coming out of the pot just in time for lunch!

Carver Charter Renewal 
As a dependent charter high school in the Sacramento City Unified School District, Carver is responsible for submitting a Charter Renewal Petition every five years. Last week, Dr. Alessandri submitted the charter on behalf of the school. In the next month, the district charter review team will review the charter, visit the school (1/31), and request clarifications, more data or other items to complete the review.
 
The charter will be presented to the SCUSD Board of Education on Thursday, February 16 in the evening. Our faculty, students and Parent Guild members will give a brief presentation. We hope you can join us at the Serna Center to support Carver's charter renewal. The presentation will be sometime after 6:30pm. We will now more specifics as we approach the meeting date.
Folsom Lake College Orientations 
The Folsom Lake College Orientation Program now has a new webpage. Students can now register for an On-the-Ground Orientation through the new FLC Orientation Webpag e:   www.flc.losrios.edu/orientation at any of our three sites:
  • FLC Main Campus (in Folsom)
  • El Dorado Center (in Placerville)
  • Rancho Cordova Center (in Rancho Cordova)
Please note: Students must first complete the Los Rios application to obtain a Student ID Number, in order to be able to register for an orientation (Los Rios Application for Summer and Fall 2017 becomes available February 1 st).
 
Students who attend an On-the-Ground Orientation will: 
  • Connect with fellow incoming students and peer mentors
  • Meet college faculty and staff
  • Learn about academic programs and majors which Folsom Lake College offers
  • Get to know the many services and resources available to them
  • Gain a feel for campus life and culture  
SPECIAL POPULATION ORIENTATIONS
Special orientations are available to meet the unique needs of:
  • Students with learning, physical or psychological disabilities, offered through FLC's Disabled Students Program & Services (DSPS)
  • Veteran students (offered through FLC's Veterans Success Center)
  • Special orientations for English-as-a-Second-Language (ESL) students coming soon!
CALENDAR of ORIENTATIONS
Camp Tamarack High Sierra Summer Camp 
Camp Tamarack is accepting application for campers and counselors for the summer session June 25-July 9. Camp Tamarack has been offering the Waldorf Community a quality wilderness experience for children 9-15 years old since 1971. Camp Tamarack is surrounded by granite peaks and tall pine trees. Children experience the outdoors by swimming in nearby lakes and streams, and hiking to stunning sites while forming life-long friendships.
Young Women's Political Leadership Program 
The Young Women's Political Leadership Program introduces 60 high school girls to the importance of political leadership. This week-long retreat in July includes workshops led by experts in the field on public speaking, messaging, networking, on-camera media training, and platform development.
