Legal Aid hosts phone-a-thon

Thank you for being a part of the Legal Aid family! Your continued friendship, support, and trust in our work means a lot to our staff and the clients we serve.

Legal Aid will be hosting a phone-a-thon the week of June 19 - June 23 with the goal of raising $50,000. You can help support the phone-a-thon online by clicking here.  Please email if you want to help or have questions.

 
Blood Drive Summer 2017

The Honolulu Legal Aid office is partnering again this year with Group 70 to help the Blood Bank of Hawaii fulfill its blood donation goals. The blood mobile will be across the street from the Legal Aid Bethel office  on  Tuesday, June 13 from 8:45 am-Noon. Sign-up to donate!

Kokua Healthcare Navigators

Legal Aid's Kokua Healthcare Navigator, Joakim Jojo Peter, conducted an outreach with a Chuukese traditional clan group at the Blaisdell Park in Aiea with about 60 people participating in the event. JoJo presented on the Special Enrollment Period, tax credit requirements, and the upcoming Open Enrollment Period.  The president of the organization extended an invitation for future outreaches in their upcoming quarterly meetings. - Connie Liu Managing Attorney for Community Engagement


 
Ka'iulani Fair

The Ka'iulani Fair on May 26 brought various organizations together at the Princess Victoria Ka'iulani Elementary School in Kalihi to help promote a healthy lifestyle in the community. AmeriCorps members Angela Hwang and Jane Lee joined Legal Aid's Kokua Navigators Ronnette Ome and Jojo Peter in providing legal and health insurance information.

Legal Aid's Homeless Outreach Team working together with Angel Network to provide legal help


Legal Aid's Homeless Outreach team members Angela Hwang and  Emil Romolor at the Angel Network Outreach.  
The outreach team are there on Thursdays, except the last Thursday of the month. 
 
Legal Aid's Homeless Outreach Team are providing legal services at Angel Network. One of Angel Network's biggest accomplishment is the establishment of its food bank. It is the only such service provider in the entire East Oahu; reaching those in need from Waimanalo, to Aina Haina, and to Kaimuki. The food bank serves over 2,500 people a month. Other services include provision of a mailing address, a shower, and laundry facilities. Angel Network also provides clothing and furniture for people in transition and participates in "Operation Backpack," which collects school supplies for children whose parents are unable to afford them.

Legal Aid's AmeriCorps Advocates conduct "Know Your Rights" at state public libraries
 
As part of Legal Aid's "Know Your Rights" community outreach, Legal Aid's AmeriCorps Advocates are visiting local libraries to provide legal information to the public. AmeriCorps members  conducted a presentation on landlord/tenant basics at Liliha Public Library and shared more about senior legal issues and provided a guide to public benefits  at the McCully-Moiliili Public Library and Waianae Public Library.
 
At the Salt Lake-Moanalua Public Library, AmeriCorps members worked with Legal Aid's Asset Protection Unit to provide a presentation on consumer issues. 

Thank you to the Hawaii State Public Library System and AmeriCorps Advocates for helping provide these presentations to the public.
