From the Rector

Good teachers know when not to raise their voice but to lower it. Once upon a time in ancient Israel the people didn't want to hear from God, so God, like every lover who can't stand to be taken for granted, gave them what they wanted, the silent treatment. But God found in a child someone who was ready to listen. "Then the Lord called, 'Samuel!' and Samuel answered 'Here I am!'" Samuel is in bed when God whispers his name; he thinks it's Eli calling, so he goes and wakes the old priest.
Why did God do it this way? When Samuel gets up and heads down the hall toward Eli, why didn't God stop him and say, "Samuel! Where are you going? It's not Eli. It is I! I want to talk to you!" God didn't do it that way because God wanted Eli to be awakened by Samuel; God wanted Eli to know that he is still talking, he's just not talking to Eli. Children belong here as much as any grown-up does.
     See you in church,
     Fr Ellsworth
From the Rector  |  On St Stephen's Day, it was my delight to announce that, with the blessing of Bishop  Marc Andrus , I have called the Rev'd  Alberta Brown Buller  to come to St Stephen's and serve as Deacon. Christus natus est and Deo gratias, she has accepted my call. The Rev'd  Dorothy Jones , the Rev'd  Shari Young , and the Rev'd  Richard Schaper , and I look forward to the honor of serving side by side with her. Deacons serve at the direction of the Bishop. By his assignment, and by happy agreement with my friend Fr.  Chip Barker Larrimore , Rector of our parish's mother church, Christ Church, Sausalito, Alberta's ministry will be shared between our two parishes and will strengthen and help us continue to grow our common ministries. Deacon Buller's first Sunday as Deacon at St Stephen's will be this Sunday, 14th January. Please join me in  welcoming Alberta home.  There will be a coffee hour in her honor on a date to be announced.
The Annual Meeting of St Stephen's Parish will take place in Kimball Hall on Sunday, 4th February 2018, following the 10 o'clock service of Holy Eucharist.
