From the Rector
After his death, Jesus' disciples didn't scatter. They kept in touch with each other, but they no longer went about openly. It wasn't safe. Yet they had to meet, so on Sunday evening behind a locked door and after dark they came together. If they could have rolled a great stone in front of their door they would have done that if they could have done it secretly. They were not sure they could even trust a locked door to stay locked. Nothing was the way it seemed to be.
They couldn't trust a teacher who'd let himself be killed. They couldn't trust their friends not to betray them because they'd seen betrayal amongst them. There was little left to trust in, but one of those things was the locked door. What little trust that survived had lighted upon the wrong thing. For a man came through that door as if it was not there and stood among them. He said, 'Peace be with you.' And all their hopes about defending themselves disappeared.
See you in church
,
Father Ellsworth
