Greetings!

Following is an action alert from the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights.

Dream Act

The clock is ticking and time is running out to move key legislation forward to protect immigrant youth and families in Illinois!

Click here to find out what you can do to help!

Recently we have seen immigrant communities come under attack, from ICE's agents laying siege to schools in Detroit, to Georgia baring undocumented students from public universities, and attempts by ICE to override local laws to force Cook County into the flawed Secure Communities deportation program.

We need to take a stand in Illinois - and we have 5 days to do it!

The window on the state legislative calendar is quickly closing and there are two bills that would make a huge difference in the lives of immigrants in Illinois.

Illinois DREAM Act: (SB 2185-Cullerton, House Sponsor: Acevedo) that supports those hard-working undocumented immigrant students who stay in school through private scholarship funds and legal driving certificates.

Smart Enforcement:  (SB2266-Muoz, House Sponsor: Burke) law that prevents ICE dragnet deportation programs like "Secure Communities" from  wasting Illinois tax dollars and  law enforcement resources and ends the destruction of immigrant families and communities.

We need you to take action right now to make sure we can move these bills forward before April 15th!

Click here to tell Speaker Madigan and your representatives to stand with immigrant communities by co-sponsoring SB 2185 and SB 2266, supporting immigrant services, and a fair redistricting process.

Democracy is not a spectator sport,

Pilgrimage of Peace to the Holy Land

A Pilgrimage of Peace to the Holy Land

12 Days: November 28 - December 9, 2011

Under the Spiritual Direction of Rev. Joseph Ring

Group Coordinators: Vicki Compton, Deacon Terry McGuire, and Deacon Tom Goebel

Co-sponsored by Catholic Charities USA and Catholic Relief Services, with the Office for the Missions for the Diocese of Springfield in Illinois and the Joliet Diocese Peace and Social Justice Ministry as your hosts, this pilgrimage will include visits to the Holy Places, the "Ancient Stones", important to the People of God.  We will walk where Jesus walked.  We will also take time to visit God's Holy People, the "Living Stones", the Palestinian Christians who live in Israel/Palestine.  We will walk in solidarity with the descendants of the people with whom Jesus walked.

Each day will be steeped in scripture reflections, prayer times, and liturgy.  We will also have an opportunity to hear from the oppressed of the land, to witness efforts to bring justice and peace through development and empowerment, to learn from peacemakers and Middle-east issue experts.  This will not be a tourist trip, but a pilgrimage.  It will be a pilgrimage of prayer, solidarity, and the quest for peace.

We have the most experience in the country offering this type of Solidarity - Living Stones - Peace pilgrimages to the Holy Land.
