Hollins Theatre Grabs the Spotlight

Bellocq's Ophelia

A Hollins Theatre original production (Bellocq's Ophelia, by U.S. Poet Laureate and Hollins graduate Natasha Trethewey M.A. '91), two of the university's student playwrights (Meredith Levy '12 and Kevin Ferguson), and three Hollins student actors have been recognized by the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF), a national theatre program dedicated to improving the quality of college theatre in the United States.

National political commentator Cokie Roberts praised the theatre program and Levy's play Decision Height when she visited campus January 29, remarking, "A school of this size, to produce a play like that to become something that the nation will see is really spectacular." Roberts also noted, "The current Poet Laureate of the United States, Natasha Trethewey, is a Hollins graduate and that is something to say - it's huge."
