  On This Day In Baseball

Baseball History

On February 6, 1958, Ted Williams signs a one-year contract with the Boston Red Sox. Reports on the worth of the contract estimate from $135,000 to $150,000. Either way, Williams becomes the highest paid player in the history of the franchise.

 TOPLatest Sports Headlines Links

Here is the deal folks ... the day after Super Bowl Sunday doesn't bring many baseball related articles.  This REALLY holds true when the Patriots just played in the show!  So, there are but a few links to Red Sox related articles, and I have made the executive decision to spare the pain and NOT include Patriot links.     Trish

  Joke of the Day

Joke of the Day

An elderly man had a massive heart attack and the family drove him to the emergency room.

After a while the ER doctor appeared wearing a long face.

"I'm afraid Grandpa is brain-dead, but his heart is still beating."

"Oh, Dear God," cried his wife,

"We've never had a Yankee fan in the family before!"

Kathi and Mark, The Red Sox did not disrespect Tito. Tito lost control of the players. Once that happens you can no longer be an effective manager. Bobby may have his first test before spring training starts. How does he handle Beckett after the statement he made about what happens in the clubhouse.

How many Sox fans know who wore number 9 before Ted Williams (hint: his number is also retired)?

I haven't figured out why when I see the buses leaving for Florida I get teary eyed, it happens every year. Maybe it's because I know our team will soon be at Fenway playing baseball. And why does Papi seem to think he at his age figures he should be receiving so many more $'s than any other DH? Sure, he's a big name in Boston but to want to go into arbitration is absurd. I will miss Scutaro a lot this year, the one mainstay who played through pain and never complained, was a good teammate and everyone seemed to like him. I can't wait for our Sox season to begin.
