Do you remember the TIS feature called
"Picture of the Day"?

We thought it would be fun to resurrect these oldies but goodies throughout the off season.

Sports Quote of the Day

On This Day In History

October 31, 1926:  Harry Houdini, the most celebrated magician and escape artist of the 20th century, dies of peritonitis in a Detroit hospital. Twelve days before, Houdini had been talking to a group of students after a lecture in Montreal when he commented on the strength of his stomach muscles and their ability to withstand hard blows. Suddenly, one of the students punched Houdini twice in the stomach. The magician hadn't had time to prepare, and the blows ruptured his appendix. He fell ill on the train to Detroit, and, after performing one last time, was hospitalized. Doctors operated on him, but to no avail. The burst appendix poisoned his system, and on October 31 he died.

Math Class

The test I gave my math class covered everything we'd studied all year -- fractions, percentages and portions of whole units.

But maybe I could have explained things better. To the question "What portion of a foot is six inches?"

One student answered, "The toes?"

The problem with giving viewers a choice on announcers would be that Fox announcers would be out of a job as nobody who likes baseball wants to listen to them. As good as Jerry and Don are, I would think that most all the hometown announcers are infinitely better than the Fox guys.

We now have the weekend to see if the Sox will retain Ross or Koji. The consensus is that they will buy out Breslow's option and maybe offer a small contract or nothing at all. But the real fun starts Monday night when all free agents will be available to anybody. Get out the check books boy's and let's start signing.

Jeanne & Joe, I agree with you re: World Series announcers. It would be great to have the announcers from the playing teams. Time to ditch Joe Buck.

Well Scott, I would share my feelings with you so you could win the riches you seek but gee, I don't know you well enough and besides, I am kind of greedy and want all the money to myself, LOL!  As far as bringing that players value down, I'll leave that up to the media. As I said, we shall see what happens with this, if any thing does. Of course there are other outfielders that can be traded. Don't forget the manager is there to take care of his players so maybe JF  was just easing the rumors. If he is traded this winter, do I need to write back and say "I told you so", again, LOL! Gee, at least we got OYM rolling again.
