Do you remember the TIS feature called
"Picture of the Day"?

We thought it would be fun to resurrect these oldies but goodies throughout the off season.

Sports Quote of the Day

On This Day In History

On October 30, 1938, Orson Welles causes a nationwide panic with his broadcast of "War of the Worlds"-a realistic radio dramatization of a Martian invasion of Earth.

Orson Welles was only 23 years old when his Mercury Theater company decided to update H.G. Wells' 19th-century science fiction novel War of the Worlds for national radio. Despite his age, Welles had been in radio for several years, most notably as the voice of "The Shadow" in the hit mystery program of the same name. "War of the Worlds" was not planned as a radio hoax, and Welles had little idea of the havoc it would cause.

Advanced Day Care

A college student with a young child was pleased when her daughter became eligible to attend the day care center at the University. The director of the day care gave the mother a tour of the facilities. To assure herself of the center's high standards, the young mother asked about the curriculum.

"Well," said the director, eyes twinkling, "today we are studying the children's favorite philosopher: Play-Doh."

Judy from Ipswich - I had the same reaction when I saw the guy, but unless these old eyes are getting even lousier yet, I'm quite sure that our Mr. Drinkwater was NOT in attendance!

World Series announcing:  With the technology available today this would not be hard to accomplish: I would like to see the WS announcers be from the two teams that are playing. There should  be an option to pick which team's announcers you want to hear. Fox's announcers could be a third option.

Greg, now that I have finished laughing I can respond to your letter from yesterday.  "At the time, that was my feeling and I have always been right on with what I feel, on many issues in my life." Yet, today, Wednesday, Manager Farrell came out and said that the stories were not true and he looks forward to seeing Cespedes in the middle of the lineup next year.  Are you now going to say that John was lying so as to not diminish the trade value of Yeonis?

"...that was my feeling and I have always been right on with what I "feel."  Greg, please tell me what other things you feel so I can change my "opinions" on what I believe about life.  I want to believe what is absolutely true as well so I don't need my free will any longer and life is so much more simple for me.  Thank you for your great powers and, one more thing, can you tell me what the Power Numbers will be this week?

Thank you, Greg...

Scott in NH

PS.  All in fun, Greg, keep on keeping on.
