Joke of the Day

WARNING: Jokes that appear in this column may not be suitable for all subscribers. Read at your own risk.

Little Andy was at his first day of school. His teacher Mrs Whyte advised the class that each school day starts with the Pledge of Allegiance and instructs them to put their right hand over their heart and repeat after her.

As Mrs Whyte starts the recitation she looks around the room, when her eyes are drawn to Andy who has his hand over the right cheek of his bottom.

'Andy, I cannot continue till you put your hand over your heart,' she demands. Andy looks up and replies, 'It is over my heart.'

After several more attempts to get Andy to put his hand over his heart, Mrs Whyte enquires, 'Why do you think that is your heart, Andy?'

'Well Miss,' answers Andy, 'because every time my Grandma comes to visit she pats me there and says, "Bless your little heart," and my Grandma never lies.'

Smart AlecQuote of the Day

Those who expect to reap the blessings of freedom, must, like men, undergo the fatigue of supporting it.   Thomas Paine

Humorous Quote of the Day
You have to love a nation that celebrates its independence every July 4, not with a parade of guns, tanks, and soldiers who file by the White House in a show of strength and muscle, but with family picnics where kids throw Frisbees, the potato salad gets iffy, and the flies die from happiness.  You may think you have overeaten, but it is patriotism.  Erma Bombeck

Fact of the Day (don't quote me)

The most well know 'Independence' is found in Missouri, it has about 120,000 residents.

Tony you said to Fredd he was right that Youk was slowing down, then maybe Phil is right in that we could have made out better if he was traded 2 years ago. Just a thought...

Ed * Hanover

Question for the gang--Was Youk traded too soon? With Middlebrooks dealing with a hammie that periodically needs rest, third needs who? All of a sudden there's a shortage of infield utility men for quality relief on the field AND at bat.

Hope recovery from the storms moves faster than we're seeing on the news. Any damage at home Trish, beside the lack of power?

Ed Misk

Thanks Ed ... things here are just fine as I was one of the lucky ones who only lost power from Friday to Sunday.  I have friends that are STILL without power!  No damage - just lots of debris to pick up.  I see picking it all up as forced exercise from God.  :-)    Trish

The lack of representation on the All-Star Team shows how woeful and under-performing their "potential" All Stars have been so far this season. With the exception of Papi, the big contract, long term players getting paid enormous amounts of money to carry the Sox to the promised land, are responsible for carrying their team to hinterlands! Adrian is the biggest disappointment, and until he comes around, the Sox go nowhere.

Crawford, DiceK, Lester, Beckett, Buch, Pedey, and Lackey have wasted - so far this year - multiple millions of the owners' money. At least Youk is gone, although they had to pay Chicago to take him! I can't wait until Crawford is "ready" and they rid themselves of Nava, or Sweeney, or Podsednik, or Ross, or Kalish; and Crawford will still stink! Without the hungry kids and castoffs, the Sox would be almost winless.  One other thought: anyone who thinks Salty is an All Star (as NESN keeps assuring us) is not living in reality! He can't throw to save his life and hitting .250 makes him, at best, mediocre - bring up Lavarnway; the Sox need HITTING!

Phil from Idaho

Well the soothsayer was on the money again. I said leave Dice, Crawford, and Lackey in AAA for this year then unload all three as they are not making any worthwhile contributions. Middlebrooks will spring back quick,he is young and a lion.

Now you have to know who the next is to get the axe. Guess which one. Valentine is getting stressed as is Ben and the trade deadline approaches. They can get something going if some things change, hint, hint, after Pedey said that it is not fun anymore to play. I can see Tito sitting by the pool smiling and if, big if, he returned that clubhouse and team would be on fire again, but JH would not want to eat crow. Madden runs his team just like the sox and Tito did, and for the record John allows cold brews in the clubhouse.

So they better make some changes fast if they want to get to the post system, and odds are now that DiceK is a history lesson, thank God. Pawtucket has some real good players and I for one would send Mr Kapstein there with his earphones and see who could come up and help. Youk will be here soon and again I'd wager he hits the ball a ton and shows Bobby he is still a gamer. In conclusion today friends of RSN, there is a light at the end of the tunnel, I just hope its not a train coming.

Happy Fourth of July and if you bump into a military member thank them for the great freedoms we share and for their service.

Tony - I will answer for Fredd. You never acquire Gonzales in the first place. That guy has been a total bust for the amount of money he is being paid. Youk is by far the better fielding 1B, and if he stayed at 1B he would likely have maintained a bat that would be much better than AGon too. AGon is the second biggest mistake Theo ever made and will hurt this team for years to come as he is completely untradeable. I don't have the numbers in front of me, but I recently read the splits on Youk in 1B vs. 3B, and he hit about 50 points better when playing 1B than he has at 3B. Moving him may have ruined his career. Total stupid move to bring in AGon (knowing he just had shoulder surgery) and put Youk in a place that would cause more wear and tear on his body. Now we are really stuck - moved Lowrie (he played well at 1B & 3B), lost Youk (for ABSOLUTELY NOTHING in return), Middlebrooks is injured, and AGon sucks. What is left? Punto and Lillebridge. Well I hope we only face little league pitching for the rest of the year, because that is about all those two can hit.

Boy oh boy, was I glad last night's game with Oakland was blacked out for me. I loved it while Dice-K was gone with his Tommy John surgery but now he has another injury. He has a crick in his neck. He causes a crick in my rear and I just wish they would put him away somewhere so we did not have to watch him or hear about his on going issues and lack of production with his so called craft. He is in the same catalog as I have put Lacken Lacky, not worthy.

I was wishful when he first started after coming back but I was not surprised with Monday's outing. Get rid of him and his crick ! I bet Reddick and Moss were very happy with their production in the game and I believe the trade of Reddick was great for him since he is now an everyday player so I am happy for him. I will not be able to watch tonight's game (Tuesday) but I hope we beat the A's badly! Go Sox!
