Baseball Quote of the Day

On This Day In History

On this day in 2007, Michael Vick, a star quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons, formally pleads guilty before a Richmond, Virginia, judge to a federal felony charge related to running a dogfighting ring. That December, the 27-year-old Vick, once the highest-paid player in the NFL, was sentenced to 23 months in federal prison.

A cowboy was trying to buy a health insurance policy. The insurance agent was going down the list of standard questions.

"Ever have an accident?"

"Nope, nary a one."

"None? You've never had any accidents."

"Nope. Ain't never had one. Never."

"Well, you said on this form you were bit by a snake once. Wouldn't you consider that an accident?"

"Heck, no. That dang varmint bit me on purpose."

Uehara is getting old, Mujica is not quite a sure thing. Has anyone thought about getting Papelbon back? I know he's expensive, but he's still good at what he does. He won't save them all but he's the best bet right now. I don't see anyone else filling that role but maybe some of you do. If so, who are they and are they available? Glad they pulled out the win last night after Koji giving up the runs. Buchholz put the men on but he deserved that win. He pitched great! He even looked more confident out there. I agree, the fans are sticking with the team and I love it. Someone asked me, "You watch every game?" and I said "Yes, I do". I cheer them on, no matter what and always will. I still like Jackie Bradley, Jr. but Mookie Betts is looking pretty good and is hitting. Loved the smile on his face after the home run last night. I've been a supporter of Middlebrooks, too. He's doing great at third base and needs to get that hitting going like we all know he can hit. Papi is right, everyone's just not consistent. I think we dodged a bullet last night when Holt and Pedroia collided. Whew! Cespedes is proving himself valuable. I know it's not the end of the season yet, but I'm looking forward to the team Ben puts together for next season. I really hope he brings Lester back!!

I haven't written, nothing to write home about.. I do NOT think this team is any way near the team of 2012 (some are questioning).. That team had no respect for Valentine, neither did anyone else.. This team has that respect for the manager.. I have been yelling, "bring up the kids", they did.. But I feel "they gave up", when they got rid of the only two pitchers they had, so I gave up ( hope).. I honestly (my opinion), think the answer is partly due to needing new pitching and hitting coaches.. And I love Ortiz, but he has to set a better example of a team player.. His attitude is lacking a team leader.. You have to hustle, no matter if it's a home run or not.. Sometimes the ball is dropped, and he's lucky to get to 1st base.. Some of the swings are for not, no energy.. I do hope these kids work hard off season, they will be good.. And I'd like to add, I have lived in Las Vegas 32 years .. I am so proud of our Las Vegas Little League team, 1st ever from Nevada, to go to Williamsport, and ended up being one of the two top teams from the USA.... Will be looking for some of these names in the future..

Quoted from Tom Caron's article on Carl Yastremski: "Yastrzemski made his debut in 1961 at the age of 21. The Sox finished 10 games under .500 that season, part of a 10-year run in which they never had a winning record."

A timely reminder as we watch this season dwindle...Things could be a lot worse!

Well Jeneen, I for one still watch till the end of most games. I love baseball, and for better (2004,2007,2013) or worse (2003,2012,2014) absolutely cherish the fact that I am a Red Sox fan. I have been following since 1967 and have never given up. There was always next year. Now I know that next year can mean a world series win. The offseason will be exciting as we have to figure there will be many moves and signings. Again, I hope they break the purse strings and bring Lester back. The season may be over but I never give up hope for the future. Go Pats.

This year might not have gone as we all planned BUT I'll still take this product over anything that has anything to do with Bobby V. We definitely wouldn't have won the Series last year, we'd still have clubhouse fighting, and we'd still have no idea where we're going except back to the chicken and beer shack! Bobby V's like Dwight Howard, they don't care about the game, they only care about how much screen time they get win or lose. Just enjoy the last month of ball and take the games for what they are, a chance to root the fellas to as many wins as possible. Even though I think we can win it every year, we can't win every year, reality sux sometimes. Jerry and Don are always worth the watch though, keep it up fellas! If we're goin down, lets go down in a blaze of glory and start settin up next years title run baby! GO SOOOOOOXXXXX!!!!!
