Joke of the Day

WARNING: Jokes that appear in this column may not be suitable for all subscribers. Read at your own risk.

My girlfriend is a vegetarian. She said that I'm not a real animal lover, because I eat meat, and that if I really loved animals, I would only eat lettuce, vegetables, and grains.

I said, "If you really loved animals, you'd stop eating all their food."

Is it still a strikeout?

John D., writes: When there is a dropped third strike and the batter makes it safely to first base, is it still considered a strikeout?

Albert Pujols is tagged by Carlos Ruiz after a dropped third strike in game 2 of the NLDS

Hi John -  Yes, the pitcher is still credited with a strikeout, but the catcher is not credited with a putout.

Putouts, rather than strikeouts, are the category used to prove a box score. A box score is proven for a team when the total of their runs, players left on base and the opposing team's putouts, equal their total number of at-bats, sacrifice bunts & flies, and awards of first base due interference, obstruction, walks, and hit by pitches. "yes.")

NOTICE:  Today in Sports will not be sent on Monday, June 18th.  I will be traveling to Daytona Beach with 110 youth group kids for the BigStuf conference.  If you pray, please pray for me - if you don't, wish me luck.  And if you can't do either - have a drink for me!  ;-)        Trish

You know what I think? The Red Sox stink (hey, it rhymes)! Sorry to finally admit it! Bring up the kids, trade some veterans and retool! Even when Crawford (again, who cares anymore?) and Ellsbury get healthy, they still face long stints in Pawtucket and won't be ready until August or September - much too late to be of significance. Outside of Podsednik and Papi, they are all playing poorly. Trade options to include, but not limited to: Youk, Aviles, Salty, Bard, Lackey, Becket, DiceK, Shoppack, and a plethora of outfielders to include Crawford, if any team is stupid enough to buy out his contract. Please, feel free to add a name or two not listed above! Who cares if it takes the rest of this year to season Lavarnway, Middlebrooks, Kalish, and Iglesias? The Sox are terrible the way they are currently constituted, so CHANGE THE CULTURE! Pick up more youth and pitching with trades...the team is spiritless, boring, and broken. There is no future in continuing what does not work - its kind of scary to think Ben is in charge

Well the baked pancakes at Clarks were great, but the visit to the Ivy yard was not as good. Another loss and this one hurt a bunch. Hopefully they will turn it around tonite (Sat) and get some wins. the Bronx bombers are on a tear and it's almost July. Hopefully our devoted Trish is not pulling out her hair by now and has managed some sleep with her 110 charges. So have a good nite RSN from Chitown and hopefully the Sox will get it going like the Yankees.
