Mookie The Red Sox Rookie ... by Annie B

(Sung to the tune of Rudolph)

We've got Papi, and Pedey, and Hanley and Pablo,

Farrell and Buttahs and Brock Holt and Buchholz,

But do you RECALL the most famous Red Sox of all?

Mookie, the Red Sox rookie ... had a very shiny smile

And when he hits the baseball ... he can hit it for a mile

All of the other rookies ... used to laugh and call him names

They never let poor Mookie ... join in all the rookie games

Then one foggy baseball night, Farrell came to say

Mookie with your smile so bright, won't you guide this team tonight?

Then all the Red Sox loved him ... and they shouted out with glee

Mookie, the Red Sox rookie, you'll go down in history!

You'll go down in his-----tor----eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!

Do you remember the TIS feature called Picture of the Day?

We thought it would be fun to resurrect these oldies but goodies throughout the off season. Unfortunately, I don't have the descriptions.
The date under the image might help you figure out why the picture was created.

Sports Quote of the Day

On This Day In History

Dec 19, 1986 - Michael Sergio, who parachuted into Game Six of the 1986 World Series at New York's Shea Stadium, is fined $500 and sentenced to 100 hours of community service. On October 25, Sergio, a 37-year-old actor and Mets fan, landed on the infield with a "Let's Go Mets" banner in the first inning of the sixth game between the Mets and the Boston Red Sox. Over 55,000 stadium spectators witnessed the sky diver's arrival and cheered him on. Sergio, who was quickly removed from the field by police, claimed he was an experienced parachutist who made the jump to show support for the Mets.

A little boy opened the big family Bible. He was fascinated as he fingered through the old pages. Suddenly, something fell out of the Bible. He picked up the object and looked at it. What he saw was an old leaf that had been pressed in between the pages.

'Mama, look what I found,' the boy called out.

'What have you got there, dear?'

With astonishment in the young boy's voice, he answered, 'I think it's
Adam's underwear!'

QUESTION

Would you like to participate by being a contributor to Red Sox Soap Box?  I am opening this column up to a few others who may want to expand on their Red Sox or baseball thoughts. Mark will remain the feature with a second run of the column from another subscriber.

I will only use a piece that I do not have to edit for grammar, punctuation, etc.  No profanity allowed.  This is an opinion piece so I expect your point of view - but it must be presented in an intelligent manner.  Otherwise, I won't run it.

If this interests you please send me an email using the On Your Mind address at the top of the page.  I will take two or three to begin with.

Trish

PawScott in NH,  I think that it's you that have shown your lack of knowledge of baseball!  Your comment regarding Justin Masterson was uncalled for.  the Red Sox signed Masterson to be a back of the rotation starter who will give them innings and keep them in games,  last season Masterson was plagued by injury's and I believe the Sox are hoping he might return to his 2013 results when he won 14 games for the Indians.  Remember the Sox are the ones who signed him to a 9.5 million contract and that should tell you they think he's a decent gamble and many of the baseball experts agree with the Sox.

I was sorry to see Jon Lester leave the Sox but you know if the Sox really wanted him they would have signed him before he became a FA.  Everyone should respect and thank Jon for his 6-7 years he gave the Sox and wish him well in Chicago.

PawWell Scott, I'm afraid I have to disagree with you. I do agree that Mark is quite often off point, but Masterson is not as bad as you imply. As a baseball fan, not just the Sox, I believe that he is, at worst, another Buchholtz. As a #4 or #5 starter, he is much better of than near the top of the rotation. In Cleveland he was expected to lead the staff. He will not have that pressure here. Of course it all remains to be seen what will happen and Ben will probably still make a trade or 2 with the pitching staff.

PawWow, Scott in NH - you certainly don't pull your punches.  How do you feel about the rest of the bullpen?  Do you really think they are done looking and buying?  I don't.  I also don't think one pitcher is going to pull this team into the Pits as you obviously do.
