Sports Quote of the Day

On This Day In History

After watching it utterly dominate the musical landscape of the late 1970s, the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences gave disco their stamp of approval, deciding to give a Grammy award for Best Disco Recording, just as the musical style was preparing to die. The first and final Grammy for Best Disco Recording was awarded on this day in 1980, to Gloria Gaynor's "I Will Survive."

The choice of "I Will Survive" as the winner that night was unassailable, even given the competition. Also nominated in the Best Disco Recording category were: Earth, Wind & Fire for "Boogie Wonderland;" Michael Jackson for "Don't Stop Till You Get Enough;" Rod Stewart for "Do Ya Think I'm Sexy?"; and Donna Summer for "Bad Girls." If there was anything surprising about the award, it was that it was being given at all, considering the anti-disco backlash that was already well underway.

The Best Disco Recording category, recognized by the Grammys for the first time on this day in 1980, was summarily eliminated from the following year's awards.

Although we were being married in New Hampshire, I wanted to add a touch of my home state, Kansas, to the wedding. My fiancee, explaining this to a friend, said that we were planning to have wheat rather than rice thrown after the ceremony.

Our friend thought for a moment. Then he said solemnly, "It's a good thing she's not from Idaho."

I kinda think in reading today that we have a feminine Brighton among us.

The weather is great in Fla.  Has been since the truck and players arrived and we look forward to  March 3rd for the first of live action and then off to Pa.for that first series.   Trish have not received an update of late on our mighty little warrior Macie and family.

Have a great day RSN and be kind to one another.

Dave ... you are so good to always ask about Mighty Macie!  I will let you know how she is by sharing a post her mom made about a week ago on Facebook:  "Pure joy wrapped in thankfulness that today is here! Next month will be our last chemo.  No words. 25 months."  I think that says it all!  :-)    Trish

Trudy:  I go to about 20 games per year, and what difference does that make in whether I like the Park or not?  I've been going for more than 40 years and I still breathe in the joy every time.  To Jack Walsh:  Are you forgetting the Los Angeles Angels?  They're an American league team.
