Baseball Quote of the Day

On This Day In History

On this day in 2003, U.S. Army Private Jessica Lynch, a prisoner-of-war who was rescued from an Iraqi hospital, receives a hero's welcome when she returns to her hometown of Palestine, West Virginia. The story of the 19-year-old supply clerk, who was captured by Iraqi forces in March 2003, gripped America; however, it was later revealed that some details of Lynch's dramatic capture and rescue might have been exaggerated.

Seeing Red, White and Blue

A visitor from Holland was chatting with his American friend and was jokingly explaining about the red, white and blue in the Netherlands flag. "Our flag symbolizes our taxes," he said. "We get red when we talk about them, white when we get our tax bill, and blue after we pay them."

"That's the same with us," the American said, "only we see stars, too."

Welcome back Trish. Right now the state of the Sox is very confusing. Like everyone else, I want them to win, but not at the expense of trading away their top prospects for 1/2 season mediocre players. If they can pick up a few hitters and only trade lower level minors, they would be much better served in the long run. They don't need to win now, as a few teams, Tigers, Dodgers, Angels and Yanks need to. They are the defending world champs and if they have to step back this year, they are not going to lose their fan base. If we stood by them in 2012, then we will be there for most any eventuality. We may not like it, but you can't win every year. Despite their present position, they are exciting again and, win or lose, we will watch. Worst case scenario, Pat's start training camp in 2 weeks. Go Sox.

Welcome back Trish, and thanks for representing those of us who couldn't go on such a rewarding adventure. Our guys seem to have found each other and become a team so I am just quietly smiling as I watch each win. Looking forward to more pictures.
