November 30, 2017
  Greetings!
The Christmas season has arrived, along with winter sport competitions, chorus concerts and competitions, breakfast with Santa, and Middle and Upper School exams. It's a busy time for our Hornets!

Our students are involved in service learning by collecting winter coats and cans of cranberry sauce, decorating doors of patient rooms at Summerhill nursing home, and purchasing gifts through Perry Volunteer Outreach's KidsGive program for children in our community. The Middle School Student Council is sponsoring a canned food drive; and our Lower School art and music clubs will be visiting Summerhill Senior Living on December 11th, while our fourth and fifth grade chorus will visit the City of Perry police and fire departments and sing Christmas carols downtown on Carroll Street.

Serving our community by helping others is an important part of Westfield’s focus. Service-learning combines meaningful community service with academic study and practical application to enrich student learning, build civic engagement, and strengthen communities. The very concept of service-learning relates directly to one of our school’s Core Beliefs: “We believe embracing community service, compassion for others and the development of leaders provides students the foundation to have a vital role in the future of their world.” We are grateful for the opportunities our students have during the Christmas season and throughout the school year to serve our community.

Give the Gift of Reading!

You are invited to shop our Middle School Scholastic Book Fair today and tomorrow (Thursday, November 30th and Friday, December 1st) in the Middle School Commons, where we know you’ll find great books for all reading and age levels!

Our Book Fair is also online! You can watch videos, listen to podcasts to learn more about some of the newest books, or create a wish list to send to relatives and friends. Our Online Fair is available until December 9. Remember, all online orders benefit our media centers and ship for FREE!

Be sure to see if your child's teacher has created a Classroom Wish List. Consider buying a book or two from the list to keep the classroom library stocked with fresh, new titles.

Hornets Volunteer at Mistletoe Market
Nearly 50 Upper School students in Westfield's Tri-Hi-Y Club and Key Club volunteered throughout the weekend of Mistletoe Market, an annual event that raises approximately $50,000 for local charities, schools, and organizations. These students took on a variety of tasks including serving as greeters to the public, assisting vendors with booth set-up and take down, helping at the entertainment stage, and delivering lunches, snacks, and drinks to vendors each day. Thank you to these awesome students for representing Westfield and serving our community at this year's Mistletoe Market! #hornetsinaction
