March 22, 2018
  Greetings!
This week, our Lower and Middle School students have completed their Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS) standardized testing for the school year, while our juniors took the ACT. Seniors have been off campus the entire week to have the opportunity to explore various career fields through the Westfield Senior Experience (WSE). Our spring sports teams are in full swing as Hornets compete in baseball, tennis, golf, soccer, and track. Our Upper School chorus and drama students are rehearsing daily for this year's spring musical. Spring break begins Monday, March 26th through Friday, March 30th. Don't forget... Monday, April 2nd is a school holiday as a result of outstanding participation in this year's Annual Fund campaign.

We look forward to seeing everyone back on campus on Tuesday, April 3rd.
Have a safe and happy Spring Break and Easter!

Upper School Students Think Critically and Creatively through Visual Arts Instruction
Students in Mrs. Laura Harrison’s art class are using their creative skills to design photo cubism collages. Westfield offers visual art instruction at every grade level. As part of a quality education, art benefits student learning in many ways such as helping students build critical thinking and creative skills, as well as follow directions and improve independent learning. #westfieldart
Westfield Family Shares with Third Grade about Improving our Environment
Third graders in Mrs. Lisa New and Mrs. Christy Grantham's classes had the opportunity today to learn about biomass, a clean, renewable source of energy made from raw resources such as wood chips. Clay and Ashley Crosby shared with their son Cruz and his classmates about their company’s work at Twin Rivers Land & Timber to help improve our environment through biomass production. Thank you to the Crosby family for sharing with our students! #westfieldscience
Seniors Gain "Real Life" Experience
During WSE Week
Westfield seniors are participating in the Westfield Senior Experience (WSE), a week that includes exposure to "real world" career-oriented and service learning opportunities. Students are "shadowing" in businesses and organizations such as the UGA Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Center, OrthoGeorgia, Mercer University, Spillers Orthodontics, American Airlines, State Bank, Knight's Pharmacy, Kennesaw State University, Therapy Specialists of Georgia, Fab'rik Corporate Headquarters, Ocmulgee Inc., Pearson Farms, Westmoreland & Slappey Animal Hospital, Stratford Academy, Middle Georgia Orthopedics, and Cut to Black Post Production Studio in Austin, Texas.

Through WSE, seniors have the chance to observe and experience professionals in various careers. Service learning combines meaningful community service with academic study and practical application to enrich student learning, build civic engagement, and strengthen communities. We are grateful to these businesses and organizations for allowing our students to participate in such an incredible experience.
Freshman English Classes Bring Life to
Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet
Students in Mrs. Kathy Stubbs' English I and Honors English I classes have created a variety of projects from replicas of the Globe Theatre to period costumes (worn by people and by pets!), art, food, and music in their study of William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet .
Third Grade Visits Upper School Chemistry Lab
The third grade classes took a "field trip" across campus to visit Dr. Grady Knight's chemistry lab. Dr. Knight shared a variety of experiments to show the students first-hand about physical and chemical changes and reactions. The ability to share teacher and classroom resources across different grade levels is a wonderful benefit for Westfield as a Pre-K through 12 school. #handsonlearning #westfieldscience
