February 8, 2018
  Greetings!
We have much to share about activities on our campus, including tomorrow's Red Out and final home basketball games of the season and next week's Westfield Family "No Homework" Night in this week's news! It's great to be a Westfield Hornet!
Tomorrow is Westfield's "Red Out" for Heart!

Wear your red! The Senior Beta Club will sponsor the sixth annual "Red Out" on Friday, February 9th. Students are encouraged to wear red to school and to the home basketball games tomorrow night so we can "red out" the stands and create awareness about heart disease. Students who make a $1 donation to the American Heart Association will receive a "Red Out" sticker to wear. #westfieldredout2018
Next Tuesday, February 13th is Westfield Family Night, a time for families to enjoy family activities and not worry about homework and studying for quizzes and tests! To help make your evening fun for the whole family, we are giving away free copies of the DVD Courageous . The DVDs are signed by Alex and Stephen Kendrick, the writers, producers, and directors of Courageous and several other Christian films. Please drop by the Administration Office to pick up your free DVD. While Courageous is considered a family-friendly, Christian film, we do recommend that families with young children preview the movie before their children view it. Be sure to share pictures of your family's activities on social media by using the hashtag #nohomeworknight or #westfieldfamilynight!

Building Molecules and Compounds
in Fifth Grade Science
Click here to watch students in Mrs. Shelley Greer's fifth grade science classes learn to build molecules and compounds using specific atoms. After building different molecules and compounds, the students produced an image using their electronic device and a special app to determine if the compound was correct and also to learn about the properties of the molecule. These special atom kits were purchased through a Bright Ideas grant Mrs. Greer received from Flint Energies. #interactivelearning #technologyintheclassroom #westfieldscience
Out with the Old and In with the New!
Thank you, Annual Fund Donors!

New desks arrived this week for our Lower School students! Thank you to our Upper School PE classes and coaches for helping to bring in the new desks and a special thanks to Westfield dads Mr. Art McSwain and Mr. Eric Skinner for assembling all of the new desks! We are also incredibly grateful for our Annual Fund donors who made this purchase a reality! If you would like to have one of the “vintage” Westfield desks, please stop by the Lower School and grab one off the sidewalk! What a neat keepsake of Westfield history!

Upper and Middle School Students Participate in GISA All Select Chorus
Sixteen Middle and Upper School students participated in Georgia Independent School Association (GISA) 's annual All-Select Honor Chorus held at Mt. Pisgah Christian School. Participants rehearsed for nearly 10 hours culminating in a concert of the repertoire studied. Middle School students worked with Boston area conductor, Dr. Jamie Hillman. Upper School students worked with Dr. Daniel Bara, the director of choral studies at the University of Georgia. For the singer, honor choir provides a unique opportunity to learn and perform musical literature under the direction of an esteemed conductor at a higher and more refined level. Students are also surrounded by others that share their passion for music with the desire to develop skills that they can use well beyond the event such as leadership skills, vocal technique, improved musicality and work ethic. We are proud of our students for the opportunity to participate in Honor Chorus! #westfieldfinearts
