THE BOILER DILEMMA:
Alternatives to Converting to Natural Gas
Thursday 3/22 from 6:30 PM to 9 PM
Community Church of New York, 40 East 35th Street, Park/Madison Avenues
Buildings in all five boroughs are required to stop using heavy oils by 2030; building owners are tempted to convert to natural gas due to its current low price, but this will encourage reliance on fracked gas. Come find out about realistic alternatives, including No. 2 oil, conservation, biodiesel, and solar thermal. STOP THE SPECTRA PIPELINE!
Monday 3/26 from 5 PM to 8 PM
Hudson River Park Trust Hearing, Village Community School, 272 West 10th Street at Washington Street, one block east of the West Side Highway
Spectra Energy is applying for permits to begin construction as early as June on a pipeline that will bring fracked Marcellus Shale gas contaminated with radioactivity in the form of radon to all five boroughs. The pipeline will endanger all those who live in the Marcellus Shale territories and specifically residents, business owners, and visitors in the West Village, Jersey City, Bayonne, and Staten Island.
Spectra needs a crucial local item for the West Village's Gansevoort Peninsula, where they want to bury their pipeline: a 30-year easement from the Hudson River Park Trust ("HRPT").
Come to the hearing on March 26th and make your voice heard to convince the HRPT to deny the easement! Click here http://www.threeparksdems.org/Gas/gas.html to send a letter to HRPT, the Governor, and others calling on them to stop the Spectra Pipeline.
