SPONSOR PROFILE
KIA MOTORS MANUFACTURING GEORGIA – PREMIER SPONSOR

On March 13, 2006 Kia Motors announced that it was coming to West Point, Ga., the first automotive manufacturing site for Kia in North America. The $1 billion facility began production of its first vehicle, the Kia Sorento, on Nov. 16, 2009. The Sorento quickly became one of the brand’s top selling models. Currently, KMMG has approximately 2,700 team members and has directly led to the creation of another 11,000 jobs through suppliers and other affiliated companies. Kia has ranked number one in the automotive industry for two consecutive years according to JD Power’s Initial Quality Study. This includes the KMMG-built Sorento’s recognition as a segment winner in 2017.

KMMG has worked hard to build a reputation as a leader in the community with a focus on workforce development. More than $2.1 million has been contributed to bring SAE’s STEM-based “A World In Motion” Program to local kindergarten-8 th grade classrooms. Additionally, KMMG has provided more than $3.5 million to launch the THINC College and Career Academy in Troup County, allowing students to begin career paths in a variety of areas while also earning technical college certifications and college credits while still in high school.

As part of The Ray , KMMG is taking its role as a steward of the environment seriously. The Ray (located on I-85 between Exits 2 and 18) is meant to be a proving ground for green technology. KMMG and Kia Motors America have brought that technology to life with the installation of a solar powered charging station for electric vehicles and the installation of a solar powered tire pressure monitoring system.

In addition to the Sorento, KMMG is also the home for the Optima, another of Kia’s top selling models in the U.S.
