Top 7 Teacher-Recommended Transition Best Practices!

  1. Collaborate with parents to identify students' natural abilities, talents and passion.
  2. Look for career education curriculum that integrates real-world job tools and hands-on activities with core reading and math skills relevant to job tasks and reading ability.
  3. Videotape students working hands-on with job tools. This will help them to better reflect on their self-image of doing job tasks.
  4. Encourage students to mentor their peers and classmates by demonstrating their skill sets.
  5. Set higher expectations for students, especially those who are low functioning.
  6. Plan field trips so students may observe and  potentially job shadow workers in trades and career fields.
  7. Involve community businesses in the development of an employment framework.
