Chamber Music

The UAB Department of Music and Abroms-Engel Institute for the Visual Arts have partnered with the Birmingham Art Music Alliance to bring chamber works that connect music with the art in the Enrique Martínez Celaya: Small Paintings 1974-2015 exhibit. The concert features UAB faculty and Alabama Symphony Orchestra members performing seven world premiere compositions written by regional composers. 

 

St. Patrick's Celebration

Celebrate St. Patrick's Day all week long with an Irish Flag raising ceremony, parade, live music, and Irish food and drink specials at Five Points-area restaurants and bars.

 

Birmingham Revealed: Jazz in Birmingham
March 10, 5:30 p.m.
Vulcan Park and  Museum

Many of the region's greatest jazz musicians and composers have roots that are distinctly Birmingham. Samford University  students, under the direction and dialogue of Dr. Grant Dalton, will provide an evening of jazz music with performances  dedicated to Birmingham's rich jazz heritage.

Come see the musical adaptation of one of the most beloved fables of all time performed by the VST's STARS student actors. Ugly looks quite a bit different from his darling duckling brothers and sisters and finds himself on an adventure of self discovery.

 

Million Dollar Quartet
March 11-12
The BJCC

On December 4, 1956, Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Carl Perkins gathered at Sun Records in Memphis for what would be one of the greatest jam sessions ever. Million Dollar Quartet brings that legendary night to life, featuring an entertaining score of rock hits.
 

Mozart & Beethoven: The Schools of Vienna
March 11, 7:30 p.m
Brock Recital Hall- Samford University

Pillars of the first and second Viennese schools of composition anchor this program featuring Mozart's enthralling overture from Don Giovanni, one of Beethoven's few scores for ballet, and Arnold Schoenberg's Second Chamber Symphony.

 


Orpheus & Euridice / Green Sneakers

Red Mountain Theatre Cabaret

This pair of chamber operas by Ricky Ian Gordon will be presented in an intimate double-bill production, exploring love, relationships, and loss. The production is part of a new exploration of chamber opera, and will feature the Opera Birmingham debuts of African-American soprano Talise Trevigne and baritone Matthew Worth.
