HEADWATERS A TASTE OF MAPLE EVENT

 

This inaugural event featured 29 regional tourism businesses showcasing the best of Headwaters maple syrup. Visitors to the region had a chance to take part in a maple syrup festival, enjoy delicious maple cowboy breakfasts, enroll in maple cooking classes, be inspired by maple themed art or even create their own maple themed art at a painting class! All this plus delicious Taste of Maple offerings via special desserts, savouries, prix fixed meals and more to tempt the taste buds. Thank you to all the participants who helped make this event a smashing success.

FOLLOW-UP FROM HILLS OF HEADWATERS TOURISM SYMPOSIUM 

 

Our annual Hills of Headwaters Partners in Tourism Symposium, held on March 24th, in partnership with Central Counties Tourism was a tremendous success, with over 175 attendees having the opportunity to gain some valuable insights into destination development, as well as culinary, cycling and festival & event opportunities. We have posted the presentations from the Symposium on our website, and encourage you to download the information, and connect with us to get involved in some of our upcoming programming and marketing opportunities.

OPPORTUNITY FOR TOURISM AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT EXPERTS, AND SPORT EVENT ORGANIZERS/LEADERS


The Canadian Sport Tourism Alliance (CSTA) in conjunction
with the Town of Orangeville, Hills of Headwaters Tourism Association, and the Ontario Trillium Foundation will conduct a one-day sport tourism workshop on Tuesday, April 29, 2014. Hosted at the Best Western PLUS Orangeville Inn & Suites, the CSTA will bring sport event, tourism and economic development experts together with community officials to share knowledge and experiences and to provide training on the CSTA's leading edge industry tools. Sport tourism is the fastest growing grassroots economic development initiative in Canada today, with approximately $3.6 billion in annual domestic spending.

This interactive workshop is designed to build capacity at the local level and help communities become more actively involved in the sport tourism industry, including how to maximize revenue associated with bidding, hosting and managing sporting events! Register now-->

 

 

WELCOMING OUR NEW HEADWATERS TOURISM FIELD REPRESENTATIVE  

 

Central Counties Tourism is pleased to announce that Jo Fillery has recently been hired as the Headwaters regional tourism field representative. Jo brings a strong background in tourism and hospitality to this new role. Along with running a highly successful culinary business in the Village of Erin for 15 years (What's Cookin'), she was also a partner in Jake's Boathouse for 19 years. Jo has been actively involved as a volunteer in both tourism and economic development initiatives, serving as a Board member and past Board Chair for the Hills of Headwaters Tourism Association, on the Town of Erin's economic development commitee, and with the Erin Village BIA.

 

In this new role, Jo will be working closely with tourism operators throughout the Headwaters region, helping them to take advantage of opportunities to grow their business through tourism, and promote their businesses through the Hills of Headwaters and Central Counties marketing channels.

HEADWATERS EQUINE LEADERSHIP GROUP RELEASES ECONOMIC IMPACT REPORT

 

The Headwaters Equine Leadership Group (HELG), a committee of the Hills of Headwaters Tourism Association has just released a baseline report on the economic impact of the equine sector in the Headwaters region (including Dufferin County, the Town of Caledon, Town of Erin
and King Township). The report conservatively estimates the economic impact of the equine sector in the Headwaters to be a minimum of $100 million annually for ongoing operating costs with a further $300 million spent on property improvements, clearly showcasing the strong economic impact of the sector throughout the region.
This report will be updated annually and is one of numerous initiatives being undertaken by HELG to support the development of the Headwaters region as a centre of equine excellence.

TOWN OF CALEDON TOURISM STUDY 

 

Sierra Planning Management along with partner the Tourism Company has been retained by the Town of Caledon to develop a tourism study. As the Town is set to host the roster of equestrian events for the TORONTO 2015 Pan American Games at Caledon Equestrian Park, Caledon is in the unique position of having significant international attention, which is expected to amplify Caledon's tourism profile as a competitive tourism destination. We want to hear from you!

ONTARIO BY BIKE NETWORK 

 

The Ontario By Bike Network recently presented their Cycle Tourism Opportunities Workshop on March 24th, as part of The Hills of Headwaters Destination Development: Partners in Tourism Symposium. The workshop talked about growing the network of certified bicycle-friendly tourism businesses in the area and about the 2015 launch of the Greenbelt Route. If you're a business owner or manager of an eligible business/organization, we hope that you'd consider registering your business with the Ontario By Bike Network.

  

There are 6 easy steps to getting your business certified as bicycle-friendly, and it all starts by visiting ontariobybike.ca/join-the-network.

CALL FOR ENTRIES - HEADWATERS HORSE COUNTRY SIGNATURE ART CONTEST 

 

Headwaters Horse Country is looking for a signature artwork to represent Horse Country.All two and three-dimensional art, regardless of category or media are eligible for this competition.This is an equine art competition. The art submitted must be representative of Headwaters Horse Country. However, horses are not a required element in the design.
