Dear Friends and Neighbors,
|
|
As you may have heard, the legislature is currently in the midst of a Special Session called by Governor Bill Walker. Unfortunately, we are now on Day 7 and the Senate has shown little willingness to meet or work on the items called for by the Governor. While this overtime has been very disappointing, I continue to work with colleagues on all sides, encourage productive dialogue, and do my best to keep us moving forward.
All the bills listed on the special session call have been dealt with in the House with the exception of the proposed motor fuel tax (SB25), which the Senate is taking the lead on, and the Capital Budget (SB23), which is traditionally the final piece of legislation addressed by the legislature. The Operating Budget (HB57), Mental Health Budget (HB59), oil tax credit reform bill (HB111) and Permanent Fund Protection Act (SB26) are all in conference committees, and on Monday the House passed the Governor’s legislation to address the ongoing opioid epidemic (HB159).
Given the House's progress, and with no meetings scheduled for the next few days, I feel my time is better served in our home district where I can work with you directly on these important issues. Other House members will also join me in traveling home to both engage with constituents and save State funds by declining per diem, while House leadership remains in Juneau to continue work on key legislation.

Heads up to neighbors in the Country Woods subdivision and area: road rehabilitation and storm pipe replacement is scheduled to start on Tuesday, May 31st and should be completed by June 30th. Check out the map for exact location details.
This should be a big improvement to some of the drainage issues and pot holes that appear each spring.
For questions, call the Project Administrator, Melinda Tsu at 343-8110.
