Recent T ender Years Treasury Event

The Town of Smithtown Senior Citizens Department and Recreation Department hosted their annual "Tender Years Treasury" event on December 3, 2016. Recreation and Senior Citizen Department staff members and Thirty-eight (38) Smithtown Youth Bureau Volunteer Corps members made the special holiday shopping spree for children from grades K-5, a wonderful success! Many families participated in the holiday shopping event and spent quality time with their children.  We thank all of our volunteers for their time and effort, chaperoning and guiding the young program participants.

Volunteers escorted each child individually to enhance their solo shopping experience (without mom or dad).  Children enjoyed a fun-filled day of making their own holiday gift purchases with the help of the volunteers for their loved ones. Other activities included: decorating cookies, making holiday crafts, handmade quilt raffles, refreshments, writing letters to Santa and taking pictures with Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus!

Anger Management Program

**Starts January 11, 2017**
For Students ages 13 - 17

The Town of Smithtown Youth Bureau and Horizons Counseling & Education Center will be providing a Teen Anger Management program comprised of five (5) engaging, interactive workshops.

This effective, research-based behavioral program focuses on helping teens, ages 13 - 17 recognize what "normal" anger is, learn practical anger management skills and how to deal with anger and frustration in healthy and constructive ways. Relaxed, informal settings are extremely helpful for any teen, either experiencing anger management difficulties or merely dealing with general stresses and challenges of peer, family relationships and life.

This highly interactive program presents easily understood concepts and provides opportunity for teens to share their experiences and practice valuable skills.
