Transportation Tomorrow Survey
The Regional Municipality of Durham has partnered with the Ontario Ministry of Transportation (MTO), Metrolinx, Toronto Transit Commission, and 18 other regional, county and single-tier municipalities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe to undertake the 2016 Transportation Tomorrow Survey (TTS). The purpose of the TTS is to capture information on trips made by residents during a typical weekday. The TTS is a fundamental source of data used for long-range planning initiatives and the improvement of transportation facilities.

The 2016 TTS will start after Labour Day and end in mid-December.  Invitation letters from the Minister of Transportation will be sent out to a randomly selected sample of households throughout the fall, inviting residents to complete the survey online or by phone. Some of these households will also be contacted by phone to complete the survey. The goal of the TTS is to obtain completed surveys for a five per cent sample of households throughout the survey area, which represents approximately 11,700 households within the Region of Durham. Participants are being asked questions about trips made by the members of their household, as well as general demographic and travel information. All information collected will be kept strictly confidential and cannot be traced to an individual household.

The Ontario By Bike™ Network
The Ontario By Bike™ Network is a program certifying and promoting bicycle friendly businesses and cycle tourism in a growing number of regions across Ontario. The Network of over 1,250 locations is open to accommodations, food services, attractions, wineries, breweries, business areas and cycling related businesses and organizations interested in cycle tourism.

Closing October 14th  - Tourism businesses are encouraged to register with the Ontario By Bike Network (for free) by October 14th to have their locations included within the upcoming revised Durham Cycle Tours Map , currently being updated by Durham Region in collaboration with municipal stakeholders. With an expected print run of 15,000 copies for a spring 2017 launch, this is a free promotional opportunity for businesses interested in reaching the cycling community.

This is a great opportunity for marketing exposure to cyclists. Durham Region has been featured on a dedicated " Great Places to Cycle " page with a direct link to where consumers will find over 90 businesses that have already had their locations listed on the website.  Becoming bicycle friendly also makes good economic sense. Studies have shown that people who biked to an area spend more money overtime than those who drive there.

Interested in registering your location as a bicycle friendly business and reaching this growing market?  Click here!!  If you have any difficulty creating your account and adding your business listing, please don't hesitate to contact Michael at Ontario By Bike by phone (1-866-701-2774) or email ( info@ontariobybike.ca ).

Township Fire Department News
  • Brock Township Fire Department re-certified in Tanker Shuttle Accreditation on Saturday, October 1, 2016. Contact the Fire Department to receive a copy of it.
  • Fire Prevention Week is October 10-14, 2016. This year's theme is "Don't Wait - Check the Date." Few people know how old their smoke alarms are, or how often they need to be replaced. To find out how old your smoke alarms are, look at the date of manufacture on the back of the alarm. If it is 10 years old it should be replaced. A message from Brock Township Fire Chief Rick Harrison and the Ontario Fire Marshall and Emergency Management...because a working smoke alarm saves lives!
