As you know, Congress' inability to pass funding legislation has caused a closure of the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. There is no clear date for a reopening at this time. We know as much about the potential length of this shut down as those of you have been closely following the news.
We wish we had more information to share, but we hope that you understand our predicament. CVNP staff gave us a deadline before they left for furlough; if the park is not open by Tuesday, October 8th we need to reschedule the race. The Towpath Marathon has been going strong for 22 years and we are working to explore our options. We thank our runners for their messages of support and for your patience. We will send an update Tuesday Oct 8th.
There are some questions regarding access to the Towpath when the park is closed. Rangers have asked the public "to please respect the closures so law enforcement rangers can focus their efforts on protecting human life and property and responding to emergencies. Entering a closed area may result in a violation notice."
