Welcome to the July Trade and Investment Update
The month of July was marked by a visit to the UK from President Donald J. Trump, the first time since entering office. The President's visit was the precursor to an announcement by the UK Department for International Trade (DIT) that formal, public consultations will take place on new trade arrangements with Australia, New Zealand and the United States, following the latest meeting of the US-UK Trade and Investment Working Group. More information on these consultations, including how you can contribute, can be found in the
Business Opportunities
section below.
The UK also played host to hundreds of US government representatives this month, as they attended one of the most important aerospace events in the world,
the Farnborough Airshow
,
alongside 80,000 other attendees from across the world. The biennial event gathers representatives from the aerospace industry, worldwide governments, and aerospace fans to give businesses the opportunity to foster innovation on aerospace and showcase the newest developments.
BABC's London chapter was happy to welcome to London Secretary of Commerce for the State of Indiana, Jim Schellinger, the Governor of the State of Virginia, Ralph Northam and Secretary of Commerce of the State of North Carolina, Anthony Copeland.
The Department for International Trade has published its Inward Investment Results 2017-2018. The report contains comprehensive information on the level, type and source of Foreign Direct Investment in the UK, including how many new jobs are supported by increased investment. How Travelers can help your business
|
|
BABC's new Trade and Investment Guide to the US is a fantastic resource for any company looking to bring their business stateside. Packed full of expert information on the obstacles (and opportunities) you may encounter when taking your business transatlantic, including tax, immigration and insurance.
Travelers kindly provided some expert advice on the US insurance market to ensure that you hit the ground running when you take your business across the pond.
Take note! For a small business it is important to understand your exposure in the US market, which often differs dramatically to the UK. It is widely recognised that the US is a litigious society, so ensuring that your products and services are covered sufficiently is essential.
