Bay Area Arts Community Mourns Passing of Director Michael Lange
|

| Director Michael Lange, who passed Wednesday, May 20, 2015 was honored by the San Francisco Black Film Festival in 2011. The Lange Family including Ted Lange of "Love Boat" notoriety and Jerri Lange, author and veteran broadcaster & mother of Ted and Michael were honored at the Jazz Heritage Center at the former Yoshi's Complex. |

Noted Director, Producer, and San Jose State University Lecturer, Michael Lange will be sorely missed in the Bay Area Arts Community. On this traditional Memorial Day, services for Lange will be held at St. Columba Catholic Church , 6401 San Pablo Avenue, Emeryville, CA 94698
The San Francisco Black Film Festival paid tribute to two Bay Area entertainment families in 2011, implementing the idea of San Francisco Filmmaker and Film industry Consultant, Jacquie Taliaferro. The family of Michael Lange, Ted Lange and Jerri Lange along with actor and producer Shabaka Henley and his wife Filmmaker Paulina Shahagun were honored with an awards ceremony.
It was interesting to note that Henley in his remarks said his success was due to Jerri Lange's instruction as one of his professors at San Francisco State University and the fact she introduced him to Ted Lange, an actor, director and producer who was on television at the time playing the role of "Isaac" on the popular "Love Boat" (1977-1987).

KPOO's Safi
paid tribute to Lange on Tuesday, May 26th, dedicating her entire show to the artist. As providence would have it, Kali O'Ray, Executive Director of the San Francisco Black Film Festival as interviewed during that show. He noted that the last time he had seen Michael was at KPOO.

Healing Circle Appeal for Washington Journey

Mother's Day 2015, mothers of slain children and their supporters gathered on the steps of City Hall. The Healing Circle Mother's Day Rally was a call for justice for their children whose killers have not been brought to justice.

If you missed the coverage on KGO TV, you may have missed the report about the gathering of mothers who have lost their sons and daughters to violence in San Francisco. The Healing Circle held its annual Mother's Day Rally on Sunday, May 10th on the steps of City Hall. They will be going to Washington D.C. to tell their stories. Please note this appeal to assist

Hello Everyone,
We are asking for your support to help mothers attend the Standing for Peace & Justice Rally in Washington, DC from June 4-7, 2015 where survivors of homicide and violence. As the San Francisco Mothers In Charge Chapter Leader, I'm asking for financial support in any amount to help us with airfare and transportation for mothers who want to attend our event in Washington DC, however, cannot afford it. Recently Salahaqueenyah Chandler, lost her son with three other young African American in one of the worst homicides w in San Francisco on January 9, 2015. Salahaqueenyah (Sala) Chandler and 2 other mothers need your financial support to attend this trip, to get to Washington, DC.
Both Airfare and lodging are needed for our mothers to attend the Standing for Peace & Justice rally. What ever you can do to support our grieving mothers, will be most appreciated. Your sponsorship will include your name, organization and sponsorship on the photo poster of the mothers you are sponsoring, and displayed at our rally. Your tax deductible contribution form and Rally information is in the attached. The total cost for this trip per mother is average $1100.00 for both airfare and hotel. for the recent articles that share the story of Sp5 Wyley Wright, Jr., a fallen Vietnam Hero and the love of his life, Ouida Fay McClendon Wright, who were joined together in honor at Arlington National Cemetery after decades of separation. Wright, who was a stand up soldier in more than 300 missions in Vietnam died as an honor guard on an added mission for Secretary of Defense Robert S. McNamara on March 9, 1964 and Ouida Wright died March 9, 1970.
