Dear neighbors,

The repair of the Cortland Street Bridge has led to a number of transportation challenges in our neighborhood.  While this bridge isn't located within the Ward, it is a highly-traveled location and construction has led to severe traffic congestion and, in some cases, hazardous driving conditions that many of you have reported to our office.

At our urging, CDOT has undertaken a traffic study to assist with traffic flow at the Cortland Street Bridge, and will be making the following improvements:
  • Adjusting the timing of traffic lights at the intersection of Webster and Ashland.
  • Installing a left turn lane and left turn signal on westbound Webster at Ashland.
  • Placing electronic message signs at North Avenue, Elston and elsewhere, encouraging drivers to use Elston Avenue as an alternative to Clybourn. CDOT reports that traffic is flowing smoothly on Elston, even with ongoing construction at Elston and Fullerton.
  • CDOT will be delaying certain projects in the immediate area until the bridge is completed.
Many of these modifications, such as the electronic messaging signage, have already been instituted. The additional measures will be completed in the very near future. Please let us know if you have any questions, and we'd be happy to assist.
Back to School

Summer is coming to an end and it's almost time for students to head back to school!

But before that, an exciting transformation is taking place at our premier high school in the 43rd Ward, thanks to the efforts of parents and community members.

The inaugural initiative for #1school1community is this weekend - August 21st and 22nd! Thanks to the more than 100 volunteers who have signed up to paint the school. We'd also like to thank Starbucks, SkinnyPop  and the newly opened Slice Factory ( 2364 N. Lincoln Ave)  for providing food and drink for volunteers!

Friends of Lincoln Park High School continues to accept contributions for supplies for the event. Click here to make a contribution

We're looking forward to seeing everyone this weekend!
