Themed as "Transportation: Making Connections that Matter", this conference is the largest gathering among Louisiana transportation professionals. Read more.

April is National Distracted Driving Awareness Month
NHTSA has also developed a robust social media strategy designed to raise public awareness about the consequences of texting and driving. The focus is on the idea that "If you're texting, you're not driving." Read more.

AAA finds most drivers overestimate how carefully they drive
According to the latest research by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, about 87 percent of drivers engage in at least one risky behavior while behind the wheel within the past month. Read more.

Sonic gives 48K to support Louisiana's child passenger safety program
At a press conference held yesterday, Kergan Bros. Sonic presented a check in the amount of $48,000 to Louisiana Passenger Safety Task Force for the purchase of nearly 1,000 child safety car seats for families in need. Read related article.
 
 
 
NHTSA releases SaferRide mobile app to help keep drunk drivers off our roads
During St. Patrick's Day, and throughout the year, NHTSA's newest SaferRide app will help keep drunk drivers off our roads by allowing users to call a taxi or a friend and by identifying their location so they can be picked up. Read more.

USDOT Secretary Foxx unveils budget proposal for automated vehicles, announces initiatives that accelerate vehicle safety innovations
 
USDOT Press Office - In his last State of the Union address, President Obama signaled his intent to invest in a 21st century transportation system. US Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx today revealed part of the president's proposal: a 10-year, nearly $4 billion investment to accelerate the development and adoption of safe vehicle automation through real-world pilot projects. Buzzed Driving is Drunk Driving. The Safety Center encourages all safety partners to remind motorists not to drink and drive come St Patrick's Day, March 17, 2016. If you'll be drinking alcohol, remember: Buzzed Driving is Drunk Driving.
 

 
Here's what you can do to be part of this initiative:

1. Designate a sober driver.
 
2. Connect with your Regional Transportation Safety Coalition and be part of any St. Patty's Safe celebration activities in your area.

3. Work with your Human Resource Office to disseminate safety tips and statistics.

4. Just simply spread the word:

Buzzed Driving is Drunk Driving.
