DRIVE SOBER OR GET PULLED OVER- 4th of July
Safety professionals and advocates are gearing up for this year's 4th of July Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over enforcement campaign. Help us remind everyone to plan ahead and not to drink and drive this July 4th!

 
In Louisiana, there were 264 fatal and injury crashes over the three-day 4th of July holiday in 2015. These crashes injured 476 motorists and killed five. Of the 476 injuries, 83 were alcohol-related. Of the five fatalities, three were alcohol-related.

Highway safety chief LeBlanc to retire from distinguished public service career

Colonel John LeBlanc, the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission's Executive Director, announced recently that he will retire later this month. Under his tenure, the state's number of roadway deaths and injuries have dropped while seat belt usage has risen. Read more .

Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office receives 'public safety best dressed' award
Sheriff Craig Webre announced that his office has been recognized by the North American Association of Uniform Manufacturers and Distributors as the "Public Safety Best Dressed". Read more.

Capital Region Coalition provides safety training to Livingston public works personnel
The Capital Region Transportation Safety Coalition recently provided a safety presentation focused on impaired driving prevention to over 80 workers from the Livingston Parish Department of Public Works. Read more.

Do you know a leader in teen driver safety, or is there a group or program that has gone above and beyond to end crashes involving teen drivers? If so, consider submitting a nomination form by July 1, 2016 for the 2016 Teen Driving Safety Leadership Awards presented by the National Safety Council and the GM Foundation.

New Data: Motorcyclist deaths surge 10% in 2015
GHSA - Preliminary data provided by state highway safety offices indicates that more than 5,000 people were killed on motorcycles in 2015.
