'Move Over, Save A Life' Campaign
November 14-20, 2016
The Destination Zero Deaths (DZD) team supports the statewide Move Over Campaign initiated by the Louisiana State Police, in partnership with the Office of Governor John Bel Edwards, Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, and Louisiana Highway Safety Commission.
This campaign hopes to stress the importance of motorists obeying the 'Move Over' law when approaching emergency or disable vehicles on the shoulder of the highway.
The campaign kicked off with a
press conference yesterday held on the steps of the Louisiana Capitol

Louisiana's 2015 crash data show increased fatalities, severe injuries
At the latest Traffic Crash Data Presentation by Dr. Helmut Schneider, Executive Director of Highway Safety Research Group (HSRG), the numbers revealed a slight increase in fatalities from 740 in 2014 to 752 in 2015 as well as an increase of 13, 433 critical and severe injuries in 2014 to 14,080 in 2015. Seatbelt use has steadily increased particularly rear seat usage by 14%. Read full report here.

In an effort to educate teenagers the consequences of poor driving decisions, the University Medical Center New Orleans and LA State Police conducted this school year's first "Consequences of Impact" mock crash event at the St. Mary's Dominican High School. Read more.

Capital Region uses simulators for education at Live After Five
At the Baton Rouge's last leg of Live After Five event, the Capital Region Transportation Safety Coalition took the opportunity to use virtual reality simulation goggles and fatal vision googles to educate the public on the importance of no texting while behind the wheel, and how alcohol can impair driving decisions.

Daily Comet News - The BAT Mobile made it to the State Police Troop C in the South Central Region last month. No, not the one belonging to a certain caped crusader. It's the Breath Alcohol Testing (BAT) mobile unit that law enforcement officers use to conduct DWI checkpoints.
CenLA shares safety tips at the National Hunting and Fishing Day
