Trail Closings & Alerts
The trail will be closed under the SR 48 bypass for 5 days beginning March 26. ODOT will be repairing the washout issues at that location.
Ongoing projects: Four trail projects begin this month to stabilize the riverbank and trail. Three projects are in the Fort Ancient area between SR 350 and Strout Road. The fourth project is between New Burlington Road and Roxanna New Burlington Road near Spring Valley Wildlife Area. There may be intermittent closures in these areas through the rest of the year; see our website for updates.
Repaving News
In January, we asked you to contact state legislators to ask that the next budget would include capital funding for repaving the worst sections of the Little Miami State Park trail. We are excited to report that our capital request has received a recommended $200,000 in this year’s state budget!  Friends of the Little Miami State Park give hearty thanks to Representative Tom Brinkman, who met with and guided our Board of Directors, and Senator Steve Wilson for presenting our request to the Ohio Senate.
Track the progress of Senate Bill 266 as it makes its way through the legislative process.
Park Usage Continues to Grow!
The Little Miami State Park trail was visited over 1.3 million times in 2017! This is an increase of 31,000 over 2016.
FLMSP uses data on trail usage to persuade the Ohio Dept. of Natural Resources and other state and regional officials to invest the funds required to adequately restore and maintain the LMSP.
Thanks to John Theuring who leads our counting program and provided this report.
Join the Fun: Volunteer!
The new trail season is just beginning, and it's a great time to join a volunteer trail crew or discover another way YOU can give back to the trail you love. Whether it's cutting weeds or writing an article, we can use your help.
Spend a little time, make a big difference!
We’re looking for a volunteer to empty the trash can at the Grandin Rd. trail parking lot. This needs to be done about twice a month in the summer, less in the winter. THANK YOU to Haley Rapoport who has been faithfully “taking out the trash” at this location to keep our trail and parking area clean. If you can take over this job, please contact Don at dhahnj@gmail.com or reply to this newsletter.
Historical Marker Dedication
Sunday, April 29
2:00 p.m.
King house, Carter Park

A new Ohio Historical Marker will be dedicated at the King Mansion in Kings Mills, and you’re invited! Ahimaaz King directed the building of what became the King Powder Mills along the Little Miami River in Deerfield Township, and helped found and manage both the King Powder Company and the Peters Cartridge Company across the river, next to what is now our trail near Grandin Road. King also guided the building of the company-owned town of Kings Mills to provide housing for employees, and started what is now the Kings Local School District. The dedication of the marker will provide an opportunity to tour the house and unique carriage house built by Ahimaaz King and meet some of his descendants.

" Dear Friends,
I renewed my annual membership and set it up to renew each year automatically. Thank you for making that a very convenient option.
In addition, each year I record the number of miles I run or walk on the trail and donate $1 for each mile. Enclosed is a check reflecting the miles I enjoyed in 2017.
As always a big, heartfelt THANK YOU to all the volunteers who keep the trail clean, safe and beautiful for all trail users.
Sincerely, Tammy J Alverson " See our "recurring donation" option here:
