Richard Ray: Director of Missions - Weekly Update

This week has been emotional for all as we pray for our brothers and sister of
FBC Sutherland Springs. As I stated last week our office has set up internal account for those who would like to
donate funds to this church for funeral cost, medical expense, church cleanup/repair and on-going counseling. If you will send your donated funds to your Area Office with the designation marked for FBC Sutherland Springs, we will forward those funds to the church.
This week has been busy visiting with churches concerned for the safety of their congregations. Your Area Office has recruited two police officers who have a heart for God's Churches who will serve as your Church Safety Consultant. Continue to read this newsletter to see how your church can have these officers conduct a church safety assessment. Your Area Office also has available training material on "Active Shooter Neutralization and Lock Down Drills" as well as a "Church Safety Ministry Kit". We will also be hosting our third License To Carry Class soon. If you are interested in any of these classes or information, please contact your Area Office.
This past weekend, I attended the 32nd Annual Bivocational/Small Church Association Conference hosted by Mountain Baptist Church in Gatesville. It was an amazing time of education and edification. On Sunday, I was blessed to worship with the congregation of Selden Baptist Church. Sunday afternoon and evening, I was able to visit with several churches concerning church safety. On Monday, I was able to attend the BGCT Annual Meeting.
This week, I will be visiting with some area pastors concerning church administration and financial management. We are also preparing the Tri-Rivers Retreat Center for operation. We will be cleaning the lodge on Thursday and on Saturday we are having another workday to trim trees. If you would like to volunteer at the Retreat Center, please contact your Area Office. This Friday, I will be taking DPS Officer Dallon McKay to three of our Area Churches to conduct a Church Safety Assessment. On Saturday at 2 pm there will be a 2018 Belize Mission Information Meeting hosted at the Tri-Rivers Retreat Center. You can find more information on the Retreat Center at tririversretreatcenter.com.
Reminders: Yellow Cap Orientation Training has been scheduled on Saturday, November 18 from 9 am - Noon hosted by FBC Stephenville. To register scroll down this newsletter for the registration link.
If you are Yellow Cap Trained and would like to receive training for Specializing in Shower/Laundry it will be on Saturday, November 18 at Hyde Park CLC at The Quarries 11400 N Mopac Expy, Austin, TX 78759. To register scroll down this newsletter for the registration link.
As always, please take a moment and scroll down this newsletter to view opportunities in ministry within our Tri-Rivers Area. Until next week, "As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God's varied grace:" - 1 Peter 4:10

Eye for an Eye

Chuckle: I ate one time at a Pizzeria. That's a weird name. Sounds more like something you would get from eating bad pizza!"
Good Quote: "Revenge, at first though sweet, Bitter ere long back on itself recoils."--John Milton

"You have heard that the law of Moses says, 'If an eye is injured, injure the eye of the person who did it. If a tooth gets knocked out, knock out the tooth of the person who did it. But I say, don't resist an evil person! If you are slapped on the right cheek, turn the other too" (Matthew 5:38-39 NLT).
As long as I can remember, I have heard the phrase, "An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth." The phrase has it's origin in the law that was given by God to the judges of the Old Testament. In effect, the law said: "Make the punishment fit the crime." Although it was not intended to approve the exacting of revenge on someone, some were using it to justify vendettas against other people. To this day, people try to justify their acts of reprisal and revenge with words like, "I was just treating him the way he treated me."

Are you in need of Celebrate Recovery?

Celebrate Recovery is a Christ-centered program with foundations firmly established in Biblical truth. The 12 Steps with accompanying Scriptures and the 8 Principles based on the Beatitudes offer participants a clear path of salvation and discipleship; bringing hope, freedom, sobriety, healing, and the opportunity to give back one day at a time through our one and only true Higher Power, Jesus Christ.  The 12 Steps and the 8 Principles work seamlessly together, tying historical recovery to timeless Biblical teaching.
