Richard Ray: Director of Missions - Weekly Update

Happy New Year! I am excited for how Tri-Rivers Baptist Area will assist the 80 churches we serve to further the Kingdom of God through the many ministry resources we provide, edification through equipping and encouragement. Next week each church will be receiving promotional material for the first annual Tri-Rivers Pre-Teen and Youth Camps this summer hosted at the newly purchased Tri-Rivers Retreat Center. We are excited to have Dwayne Stowe serving as the Retreat Center Maintenance Staff. Dwayne is a member of Eastwood Baptist Church and has a heart and vision for the Retreat Center.
I am also excited to announce that the Tri-Rivers Laundry Unit will remain in Orange, TX through March to assist in the rebuild for those effected by the hurricanes. If you would like to serve the Lord through this ministry, please contact your Area Office. I want to thank all those who have served in this unique and needed ministry.
As 2018 begins and as your church starts or renews ministry to reach the community God has placed your church to impact, let your Tri-Rivers Area Office assist you in fulfilling God's call on your church, whether it is through promotional material, Bible Studies, administration, financial, publications, etc. We are here to serve you to assist you in furthering the Kingdom of God.
I am also looking forward to hosting several Tri-Rivers Fellowships throughout the year that are designed to bringing pastors and their families together, church leadership and congregations together so that God's family understands that we are not alone in serving the Lord and that together we can impact the Kingdom of God greatly. 2018 will be an exciting year of seeing souls saved and lives reborn and renewed all for the Glory of God.
Please continue to scroll down this newsletter to see all that God is doing through your Tri-Rivers Baptist Area.
Until next week, "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!" - 2 Corinthians 5:17

More New Year Thoughts

Chuckle: "If absence makes the heart grow fonder," said a minister, "a lot of folks must really love our church."
Quote: "No one is in charge of your happiness, except you." --Regina Brett

Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you"(Ephesians 4:32). "First, go and be reconciled to your brother/sister; then come and give your gift" (Matthew 5:24).
Avoid Holding Grudges: "God would have us learn to forgive and forget. A person is not only what he remembers, but also what he forgets. A wise old man once said: "There ain't no burden so heavy as carrying a grudge." Anger and bitterness are poisons like strychnine. They build up slowly in you until they eventually destroy you emotionally and spiritually. If Jesus could forgive those who crucified him, surely his Spirit in us will give us the strength to forgive and put all grudges aside.Don't drag into the new year your resentments, hard feelings, hates, frustrations, disappointments, or regrets. If you want this to be a great year, forgive and forget.

The trip will start Monday, February 5th, we'll go to Punta Gorda (PG) and stay until Saturday,February 10th. From PG we travel to Santa Elena and stay until Friday, February 16th. This will be an easy, no stress trip.

The plan is to paint and rehab churches in both towns. There are a bunch of Baptist hymnals in (English and Spanish) and Bibles to take down. I'll check with Pastors Pop and Manny to see if they have any special requests. If we have one or more pastors along, they will have plenty of opportunities to preach. It would be really good to have a Spanish speaking pastor along. We will need some funds for paint and building materials If you or your church would like to donate let me know.

I hope to get a confirmations as soon as December 15th. We need to get our tickets and reservations made around the first of the year. It will still be possible to get in on the trip right up until the plane leaves, if the plane is not full. I get you more information when I have it.

If you know someone who might be interested in the trip, please forward this email to them. If you would like to help sponsor someone on the trip or contribute to our building material fund, let me know. If you need help with funding and you want to go on this trip, contact me and I'll see if there is some help available.

Thanks

Missionaries to Kenya,
James and Mary Ndungu, are available to come speak at your church upon request. See information below:

Would you bear with me as I share a great burden?  Like the man from Macedonia we 'hear' believers crying out for help in their Christian lives.  Yearning to know the depths of His word and the comfort of the Holy Spirit.  They have trusted in Christ but very few who can help them grow.  We have written a short piece called "Come over and help us" based on Acts 16:9 and you click here to see it.  There you will see the USA has approximately 100 million evangelicals and 230 Christian institutions of higher learning.  Africa has three times that many believers but only a fraction (15%) of the institutions.  Kenya is only a slightly better off than Africa and also is in dire need.

You may have read of the recent elections in Kenya.  It was a re-election actually.  Well, the prime minister now in office, we believe, is the one who will not stifle our efforts.  That is good news indeed.  But the task is a big one and we are asking for your help.  Many pastors rotate between several churches so they are not in the same James and Mary Ndungucongregation each week.  These pastors are real shepherds but know so very little of the Word themselves.  I am reminded of Jesus' words to Peter "Feed my sheep".  That's what we are called to do so these leaders can in turn "Feed the sheep."

Please check out this link "Come over and help us".

Your co-workers for the kingdom.

Joann Loughlin, a member of First Baptist Church in McKinney is working on a project, with the blessings  of the Texas Baptist Historical Collection, to photograph church baptistery paintings in Texas Baptist churches and record their history. One challenge she faces is locating these congregations. Most of the churches that still have these Jordan River scenes in their baptisteries are smaller-membership congregations. If you know of a church that has one of these baptistery paintings please contact Joann Loughlin at slaterjot@gmail.com
