Yoga Body Prayer
- To proclaim the good news of the Kingdom
- To respond to human need by loving service
- To strive to safeguard the integrity of creation and sustain and renew the life of the earth
Gentle morning yoga at the start of our day will bring us a deeper connection with ourselves, and as we come to know ourselves more fully, we gain the capacity to go deeper in the love that Jesus imparts to us and to become that same love for others. We center in the body and in the awareness of the Holy Spirit within, awakening to great care and nurture for the creation that we are, so that we can love our neighbors as ourselves--more fully, more completely, more mindfully. Come and be nourished to do the work God has given you to do!

The Trinity Center Shower Ministry, housed a
t St. David’s Episcopal Church in downtown Austin
, has been designated the recipient of the Community Connection Gift for Triennial Meeting 2018. In addition to collecting financial donations for this life-affirming ministry, the National Board of Episcopal Church Women has a goal of assembling hundreds of “summer survival kits” to the homeless citizens served by the shower program.
How it began: While participating in Woman to Woman at Trinity Center, volunteers from St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Austin heard the women they were assisting talk about personal belongings being stolen when they were taking showers at other facilities in town. It was then that the idea for a private and secure shower program for homeless women was born.

Opening Celebration and Distribution of Crosses
|
|
The 49th Triennial Meeting began with a worship service led by the chaplain,
the Rev. Cathy Boyd
, rector of St. Martin's Episcopal Church, Williamsburg, VA. Our musician,
Dr. Linda Patterson
, made sure we made a joyful noise. As part of the introduction of the 2015-2018 national board, board members surprised everyone by dressing in period clothing representing women of the Church from decades past. What a fun way to start our time together. Thank you ladies for your dedicated service over the past three years. Some necessary housekeeping business was conducted, and then came the highly-anticipated presentations by the two keynote speakers, Bishop Steven Charleston and The Rev. Canon Stephanie Spellers. They did not disappoint.

A Triennial Meeting tradition is the creation of a cross with a design unique to that triennium. The 2018 Triennial Meeting crosses, which incorporate the traditional ECW logo with the triennium's theme, "GO! ECW," were presented by Presiding Bishop Michael Curry to every delegate during the opening celebration in the ECW meeting hall at the Austin Convention Center on July 5th. The remainder of the crosses will be sold at the ECW booth (#411) in the exhibit hall.

Telling the Story of the Young
Tesia Winley
Growing up in the church has been such a fantastic experience that has shaped me into the young woman I am today. Being 15 and coming to take in all the other people who, either just like me, grew up in the church or have come to love the church like I have, is an opportunity in my faith journey and I believe can take me to the next level. Being a part of GFS or
Girls Friendly Society
has been the difference, the boost, in my faith that has gotten me over the bumps that being a teenager can bring. It’s a way to help me organize my thoughts and be in touch with what is around me. Being here has brought out these skills as I go through the busyness that is the 79th General Convention of the Episcopal Church. Arriving from California and coming to this wonderful establishment has been a new experience. From the looks on people’s faces to see 7 young girls all under 20 to the absolutely phenomenal speech the amazing Presiding Bishop Michael Curry gave, everything has been new and exhilarating. Before today we were just seven girls from seven different states taking on problems that every other girl our age faced, but once we got here we discovered we are something more than just individuals. We are part of a group, an organization, a family that
is
the Episcopal church. After coming in and seeing thousands of people collected to hear one astonishing man speak, I realized how lucky I am to be loved by such a great God and to be part of such a huge gathering. Although everything in my head was overwhelming at first, things seemed to calm down as I realize I was surrounded by people that love the Lord just as much as I do. I was able to see that I can learn from the people around me despite the age difference and also despite the age difference they can learn from me. As the girls of GFS we got to present a wonderful speech to wonderful crowd, we got to attend a big ECW event, we attended a phenomenal dinner and heard amazing speakers along with other men and women of our church, and work alongside and with Michael Curry. At the workshops we got to do more intense research of the group we were a part of. We prepared intensely to make a well thought out speech of what GFS really meant to us. At our workshop we first took turns talking about different aspects of GFS and all we have to offer. Personally, I loved being able to talk and give my own insights. I have lots to say about many subjects and it seems that sometimes I don’t always get the opportunity. With this workshop, each of us were given time to reflect on how much we loved Girls Friendly. We did activities and learned more about the women interested in GFS. We also got to meet some women who, when they were our age, attended GFS. Everything about the workshop was a pleasant experience and I couldn’t have asked for better partners to work with than the lovely girls here with me at convention. Although our histories may be different, our ages, what we believe, and what we look like we are still very similar. So if you see any of us girls walking around with our uniforms on, being the young youth leaders of tomorrow please stop and say hi, share your story with us, share your faith with us because we want to hear it and we want to be a part of this amazing journey with you no matter how different we may be, we are all one in Christ no matter the difference in age. May the Lord be with you!
